  • The Ear : Terminology, Parts, Etc. : D.E.A.D Excerpt & Quizlet

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello there again my friends and fellow future funeral professionals!

This episode is a "crash course," much like my previous one on guides and limits, only this one is meant to help familiarize you with the anatomy of the ear and the words and phrases used by test makers to throw you off (seriously, the whole "question mark" thing is RIDICULOUS and you'll see why).

This episode was one of the many suggestions made for topics to focus on. Please feel free to send me a request//suggestion for any Science topic you're struggling with or would like to see added to this channel!

Firstly, I'm referring to D.E.A.D's Science study guide, pages 138-139, for the first part of this episode.

For the second part, this is the Quizlet I used:

Also: as I always say: GO REREAD YOUR DARN TEXTBOOKS! They WILL save your butt, I promise! You will 100% thank me when you're sitting for your exams- both of them! They wrote their exams FROM THEIR TEXTBOOKS! DO NOT FORGET THAT!

The most important and useful textbooks (in MY opinion, of course) being:
Your embalming textbook - whichever edition, whichever version.
I had: EMBALMING: HISTORY, THEORY, & PRACTICE Fifth Edition. Please don't fret. You really just need to read you textbook that you have, edition doesn't really matter as long as we're talking a book from this century... :)
Restorative Art & Science (ESPECIALLY FOR THE EAR/FACE/NOSE)
    Chemistry for Funeral Service
    Pathology for Funeral Service

(HEAVY EMPHASIS ON EMBALMING AND RA! HEEEEED MY WORDS, I AM BEGGING YOU!)

Now, as far as my recommended study materials, I'm a big fan of the D.E.A.D Program to help prepare test takers for exactly how they will format and word their questions. The creator, Dr. David Penepent PhD is not only a huge name in Funeral Service education, he also has rewritten the study guide books that haven't been touched since Taggart wrote them decades ago. He has dedicated his life to Funeral Service education, and I fully believe his tools are extremely useful!

To purchase David Penepent's study guide books, you can do so by accessing them via the D.E.A.D website under resource materials and use my code MEG25 for $25 off of each book. Now, I have HEARD that the code doesn't always work for both books in one order, if this occurs to you please just do two orders- I think shipping is free anyways. It is not a single use code, so please use it as much as you need to, share it with your classmates, mortuary student pals...whoever you think is worthy of such a glorious, generous act of kindness from you!

  • Guess Who's Back....(ME)

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello again friends and future funeral service professionals!

Whew- it feels so good to be back!

I apologize for my very unexpected leave of absence, but I'm ready to dive back into this passion project of mine and focus on helping YOU succeed and pass both of your NBE! Just remember - you've GOT THIS!

Here is the link to the Facebook group mentioned (I am a moderator, so you'll see me around as well):

    https://www.facebook.com/share/g/12JvJnPB4HY/

Please feel free to reach out via Fan Mail, Facebook, wherever if you'd like to suggest a topic for me to cover in an episode. That is what I will be prioritizing in the foreseeable future as I want to make sure what I'm doing is 110% benefiting YOU, my listeners, otherwise...what's the point??

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO CONTACT ME VIA FAN MAIL:

Please, I beg you, PLEASE add a way for me to respond to you IN THE MESSAGE or I cannot reply no matter how badly I wish to do so! I'm not sure why the service doesn't automatically include a "reply to message" button or something, but it unfortunately doesn't, which leaves me looking like a massively inconsiderate jerk!

If you've reached out to me and never got a reply, I assure you this was why. I reply to everyone I have contact info for as promptly as possible- but I absolutely do reply! Please do not hesitate to reach back out with your contact info, but make sure you include the reason for contacting me as Fan Mail gets deleted automatically after a period of time so I may not know what you sent before.

  • RA Color Theory : Quizlet

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello there again my friends and fellow future funeral professionals!
Firstly, here is the link to the  Quizlet I used to put this audio study guide together for you guys of the various facial profiles necessary for RA:

    Creator:
    Hollyslobodnik

    Link:
    https://quizlet.com/935661967/ra-color-theory-comp-exam-review-flash-cards/

This episode is a relatively short "crash course," much like my facial profile one, that is targeted strictly towards understanding Color Theory and its applications to the NBE and funeral service. This section of RA is absolutely VITAL to passing your Science section of the NBE, as they have MANY various questions that are obscurely centered around (and many direct ones, too) your understanding of Color Theory. I will be looking for more Quizlets that cover this for y'all, as this is extremely important for you to know and understand. Sciences is so overwhelming and it takes a lot to gather everything I personally feel you will need to know well to hit that magic 75% - so please be patient with me whilst I play a game of "Catch-Up" here! :)

I found this EPIC 1,000+ Flashcard Quizlet, verified the content, and feel it would provide a nice make-do impromptu study guide to do while I play a very extensive game of Catch Up for y'all over these next few weeks. I saw MANY extremely important things literally leap off of my screen at me whilst recording this, so if you don't want to wait for the other sections please feel free to give it a look over a few times on your own by clicking the link I provided. Don't worry, I won't be offended if you don't wait for me! :)

I intend to find more focused content for facial shapes and color theory, among many others. Please understand Science is a doozy to prep you all for as it covers SO MUCH, so I'm going to do my best recording and providing as much as I can as often as I can now that I'm recovering.

Hello there again friends and future funeral professionals!
Firstly, I'm BACK!!! It feels so good to say that!
Ok, so as I've said this is a SUPER important topic for you to have under your belt for your NBE, and I asked Professor Cain to assist me in making her own episode, from the mind of an educator, to make sure y'all get the best of the best here. Bless her for being so wonderful and helping!

I am considering putting together a small study group for Arts and another for Sciences, so if you're interested please let me know! It's purely interest based, so the more the merrier! :)
Hope everyone's been well, and I look forward to our next chat!

    The most crucial textbooks being:
Your embalming textbook - whichever edition, whichever version. I had EMBALMING: HISTORY, THEORY, & PRACTICE FIFTH EDITION.
You really just need to read you textbook that you have, so please do not fret over which edition you may currently have and that impacting your chances of passing the NBE- it will not.

To purchase a really useful study guide book(s), I highly recommend looking into the ones one the D.E.A.D site. They're written by David Penepent, PhD- the creator of D.E.A.D as well! Hello again my friends, and fellow future funeral professionals!
We are back with A SUPER useful episode pulled from the glossary found in David Penepent's study guide book, A Complete Guide to the Science Section of the National Board of Funeral Services (First Edition), and my surprise, ever-so amazing Guest, Professor Darien Cain!
If you do not already own a copy of your own study guide by David Penepent, don't fret!
It can be purchased on the D.E.A.D website AND if you use "MEG25" (no "" please, or it will not work) at checkout, you will get $25 off you book! If you would like to purchase his guide for Arts as well, feel free to do two transactions if that code doesn't apply to both- but I was told it SHOULD...but we all know how technology can be at times, right?

Here is the link for where to purchase either, or both, study guide books:

In this episode my dear friend, Professor Darien Cain, took the lead and did her own episode past my intro and goodbye portions, and offers some AMAZING educational material you will literally NOT get anywhere else as it is the BRAND NEW content being introduced to everything! So, dear listener(s), you're getting to hear something before everyone else does! Is that not AWESOME!? I thought you would enjoy that one with me.
Everything she covers will be useful to know for your Science NBE, so I do recommend following her advice and give it another listen or two. Chemistry can seriously either break you or make you during that exam.

I have also started a YouTube Channel to coincide with this Podcast that I highly suggest following and subscribing to if you have not already! I will be offering in-depth visual aids of the various places of worship, casket construction and parts, etc.!

As always, thank you all so much for you continued support!
MAKE SURE YOU LISTEN TO MY HINTS.
I CANNOT DO MUCH ELSE TO HELP YOU!
I plan on embarking on the very difficult journey of religions soon. I've been holding off on purpose because I get super embarrassed if I mispronounce things, so I'm trying to research and write out proper pronunciation FIRT! Same with the rest of the topics I have yet to touch on.
We ARE finally approaching the end of Arts, and soon I can start up on Sciences! I know maaaaany listeners have been eagerly awaiting that section, and trust me I am TRYING to hurry! I appreciate your continued patience!
