In today's episode, we're talking about a commonly perpetuated myth that taking melatonin stops your body's own production of melatonin.
However, the factors that decrease melatonin production are often overlooked. Factors such as, a diet comprised of processed foods, excess caffeine intake, time indoors and lack of exercise.
Melatonin is created in the digestive tract and plays a significant role in regulating intestinal motility, you may have heard of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) which is essentially a digestive infection caused by poor intestinal motility.
Optimal GI production of melatonin can support overcoming SIBO. It helps regulate the immune response, helps to breakdown fatty acids for energy, and supports optimal heart function.
The research on the positive effects of melatonin on the body is just getting started.
