When Memphis Mike and Friends launched in February 2024, none of us anticipated how far this podcasting journey would take us. Seeking advice from fellow podcasters, I learned that securing compelling guests is key to a podcast's success.

As we began planning, we reached out to influential Memphians we never thought would agree to join us, including Loren Roberts, Barrett Jones, Joe Birch, Bill Dance, and others who've contributed significantly to our city's fabric.

However, it's not just our impressive guest list that brings us joy; it's also the loyal listeners like you who tune in every week. Sharing these stories with you is an absolute honor.

The greatest source of joy, though, comes from working alongside "The Tigermaniacs" – Scott Morton, Greg Hall, Steve Williams, and Jeff Moser. These four incredible individuals mean the world to me and my family, often co-hosting episodes and bringing their unique energy to the show.

Geoff Calkins is the lead sports columnist for The Daily Memphianl and the host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" on 92.9FM-ESPN. He has been named the best sports columnist in the country four times by the Associated Press Sports Editors and is a member of the Scripps-Howard Hall of Fame.

Calkins grew up as the eighth of nine children on a small farm outside Buffalo, New York. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and practiced law in Washington, D.C. for three years before deciding - at age 31 - that he'd have more fun, and have more of an impact, as a sports columnist.

Calkins worked at The Anniston (AL) Star and The Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel before accepting the columnist job at The Commercial Appeal in 1996.

He has three sons (Ben, Andrew and Peter), two amiable Bernese Mountain Dogs and an abiding faith that someday one of the teams of his youth - the Buffalo Bills or Buffalo Sabres - will win a championship.

After decades of forecasting the Blues City's weather, Joey Sulipeck left an indelible mark on Memphis. With his iconic bow ties and infectious personality, Joey made weather exciting and accessible for generations.

Joey's impressive 30+ year career spanned four Memphis TV stations, earning him numerous awards, including multiple Emmy nominations.

But Joey's story doesn't end there! He's taken his passion to new horizons, authoring a book entitled ‘A God of Unsigned Left Turns’ sharing stories from his remarkable career.
