This week we're talking about the second most upsetting film of all time - Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream. We get into how the film makes you feel (it's bad), Clayton's biggest gripe with the film (the eyes), and the best part of the film (Marlon Wayan's ass - jk, it's the score)! We also talk about menacing refrigerators, getting naked for head, and gaping arm wounds. Lest you worry, we also discuss the editing, Ellen Burstyn's go-for-broke performance, and going ass-to-ass with a giant, double-ended dildo.

This week we visited the California-Nevada line and talked all about Drew Goddard's 2018 film Bad Times at the El Royale! Joining us for this adventure is Arthur Howell, host of the 2 Cents Critic podcast! In this episode we discuss Dakota fucking Johnson, Nepo Babies, and the durability of Nokia cellphones. We break down our thoughts on the Jurassic Park franchise, whether Ross and Rachel were on a break, and who has the best V cut in Hollywood! Wealso throw out hot takes (Chris Hemsworth, attractive?), consider the El Royale as Purgatory, and somehow keep tying things back to Interstellar.

Here we go...
Clayton sat down with author Scott Heim to talk about his seminal queer novel Mysterious Skin! We talk about the process of writing the novel, how he feels about the film adaptation, and what it was like to delve into such heavy content in such an honest way. We also get into Joseph Gordon Levitt's heartbreaking performance, childhood sexuality, and what Scott thinks about the recent alien revelation in the news. Mysterious Skin is such a powerful story, definitely give it a read, getting to talk to Scott about this was such an honor!

For the end of July, we decided to talk about one of the sweatiest films ever made - William Friedkin's Bug from 2007! Joining us today is 1/2 of Horror Queers (incidentally the podcast that got us into podcasting!) Trace Thurman! We discuss the abysmal marketing campaign, Ashley Judd's *powerhouse* performance, and the lack of lesbian bars in America. We also get into Michael Shannon's perfect casting/manic energy, mental health, and domestic violence. Does Shawn come around from hating this film when he saw it back in 07? Who gets to deliver the "I am the super mother bug!" line? Does Judd give one of the best monologues of all time? You'll have to listen and find out! Get out your aluminum foil and sit by your bug zappers because it's gonna get nasty!

This week we talked about one of Shawn's favorite films - The Fifth Element! Joining us for this one is returning guest Kristin Fugate - one of Shawn's bestest friends in the world! In this discussion we talk about nipples, Gary Oldman being yet another weird ass villain, and Chris Tucker's must-be-seen-to-be-believed performance. We also praise the practical effects, Milla Jovovich in general being awesome, and Bruce FUCKING Willis. There also might be an aside where all three of us just burst out into an impromptu RENT performance.

This week we're talking Tarantino and Inglourious Basterds with special guest critic and film programmer Jenny Nulf! We compare Tarantino to Taylor Swift, how this is a film of side characters, how Nazi's are just no good, and how drinking milk is villain coded! Get comfy in your period accurate wool underwear, grab some strudel, and settle in to hear us give hot takes all around (Tarantino - good?)

This week we're talking strippers with a heart of gold and punching aliens in the face in Roland Emmerich's 90's blockbuster Independence Day! We talk about our very different views on the film, random movie tie-in novelizations, and the impressive wifi capabilities of a spaceship. We also get into the cheer out loud moments, the absurdly AMERICA FUCK YEAH of it all, and how Jeff Goldblum is an absolute icon!

This week we're talking about K-fry-C and the Texas heat and the dumbest family to ever grace the screen in William Friedkin's adaptation of the Tracy Lett's play Killer Joe. We are joined by friend of the Pod, Lisa Lambert who was more than game to take on this challenging material! This is our first NC-17 film that we have covered, and made us feel very grown up! We talk about the pitch perfect casting - and imagine some alternate universe versions, try to discern how to feel about the complicated morality of the story, and don't worry - we talk about the chicken leg fellatio. So get your pumpkin pie filling, fumigate the gates of hell, and make sure your merkin is secured and enjoy our breakdown of this extremely black comedy!
