Rachael Neal, Development Director at Holland Rescue Mission, joined us today to talk about mentoring. Rachael and Shawna both shared how many people over the years have influenced their lives…and not always in a deliberate mentoring relationship. When we see Jesus in someone we can simply invite them out for a meal or coffee so we can get to know them better. Out of friendship a mentoring opportunity may emerge. We also talked about how we disqualify ourselves so quickly from being available as a mentor for others because of our flaws and failures. We don’t need to be perfect examples we just need to be living examples of what it looks like to follow Jesus. We assume that this relationship is for the benefit of the mentee but often the mentor learns as well.  Holland Rescue Mission has a program that matches up students with mentors.
