We live in the last days where through Jesus Christ and one Holy Spirit we have access to God the Father. God is gracious to communicate to us through prophecy. Scripture is the ultimate and highest authority, but prophecy is still a true revelation from God and authoritative. All believers in the new covenant community have the Spirit and at any time can be given the gift of prophecy for the common good, and as Paul says, do not despise prophetic utterances.

Common causes for spiritual weakness or lethargy are forgetting the gospel and truth of God and allowing yourself to drift, the trials that God brings, pleasure seeking and sin, neglect of spiritual disciplines. How do we rid ourselves of this numbness and reinvigorate zeal for the Lord? We die to ourselves, letting go of our own selfish desires and comfort in order to serve and love our brothers and sisters and those who are still in darkness, devoted to prayer and hiding his word in our hearts.
