Jesus gives his disciples a preview of his full glory and Kingdom

Jesus reveals to his followers his true identity, his mission and passion and what it means to be his follower. This passage serves as a summary and mountaintop in the teaching of the Bible as to the person and purpose of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the shepherd who saves, provides, keeps and reveals himself as King to his people

Jesus' influence is beginning to be known in the halls of political power and Mark wants us to see in the death of John the Baptist, the coming passion of Jesus in Jerusalem. While the world may see a tragic story of drunk politicians and their military buddies watching a dancing girl and murdering a prophet....God's people can see the cost of following Jesus and also the reality of a better Kingdom than those of this world.

How did Jesus see the world and the mass of humanity? How does his view shape our own? What do we need most? Jesus shapes our perspective and shows us our need for salvation from sin and judgment and liberation from death and the grave.

Family Sunday

Jesus is rejected in his hometown with those who knew him best unable to believe. In contrast, his disciples are sent out to proclaim the gospel and follow in faith.

True knowledge and belief follows Jesus by going to him, with him, and for him.
