Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

There’s a lot of discussion out there between the different groups who claim to believe in the Creator and His Messiah, but have completely different perspectives from their belief. Almost all of the groups believe it is all about love, so the question becomes what does that look like? What is the action to be taken? In this teaching series, Love & Torah, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings clarity from the Scripture the answer to that question.

Now that we’ve finished going through Psalm 119 where the focus is on the concept of loving Elohim, Rabbi Berkson now starts explaining the concept of loving each other.

The Gospel of John chapter 15 provides a great place begin this journey as we see Messiah Yeshua is teaching His disciples using some agricultural metaphors to get His message into their hearts about the relationship He expects.

Continuing in Psalm 119 beginning in verse 159 Rabbi Steve Berkson exposes a ‘truth’ in what King David has been writing over and over pleading with Elohim that He would “revive” him because he “loves” the commandments of Elohim. Do you need to be revived?

Romans 10:4 says in some translations that “Messiah is the end of the Law for righteousness…”, but does this mean the termination of the Law? Or does the word we read as “end” have a different meaning?

Does forever really mean forever? Rabbi Berkson has a problem with the idea of forever as he explains…

This teaching continues in Psalm 119, verse 150 where Rabbi Steve Berkson expounds on “Those who pursue mischief…” as those who have a different agenda than Yahweh, and are far from His Torah. These are those who lack an intimate relationship with The Creator. These draw near with their lips, but their heart is far from Him. They do what is right in their own eyes.

Is there a difference between ‘mercy’ and ‘grace/favor’? Rabbi Berkson touches on this topic so that there’s a clear understanding.

King David the psalmist wrote about those who “have not sought Your Laws.”, and called them “the wrong ones”. Do you seek His Laws?

Lashon Hara is Hebrew for ‘evil tongue’. Many people are familiar with this term, but are confused as to what it actually means. Rabbi Berkson unpacks the meaning of this term and how it can affect your life and the life of those around you.

Focusing on how our hearts and minds should be towards our Creator and His Torah, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues in our journey through the writings of King David in Psalm 119.

Rabbi Berkson picks up at verse 145 pointing out how throughout this psalm King David has made the connection between petitioning The Almighty, and expressing why He should grant it and why the petitioner wants it. As Rabbi Berkson questions that as all of us have called out to The Almighty, “Answer me” – can we say with honesty and integrity, “I observe Your laws”?

The Almighty created you to, at first, receive from Him. Then, as we have believed in His Son, Messiah Yeshua, and walk the path of righteousness, we become a ‘new creature’ that rises from the “Below”, the elementary things of this earth, to the “Above”, the things of Heaven. This ‘new creature’ learns to become a ‘giver’ as is The Almighty.
