National Infertility Awareness Week is from April 19th - April 25th and as a way to honor the infertility community, I really wanted to share an episode that helped people to understand more about infertility.

In today's episode we are starting at square one and defining what exactly infertility is followed by the different types of infertility and the different treatments. We talk about the overall toll that infertility takes on a couple because it's A LOT. I do share a very brief overview of our personal journey, but if you'd like to hear more please visit the podcast archive. I end this episode by helping you to understand how you can best show up for those going through infertility because it's hard to know just what to do.

Every day in motherhood we're tempted to believe a series of little lies and I call these "Motherhood Myths."

They're little lies that seep into our brain and tempt us to think that we're really doing a terrible job in motherhood when, in reality, we're doing so much better than we think we are. Today, we're debunking all five of these motherhood myths and choosing to speak truth over our motherhood journey!

The goal for today's episode is to help you feel encouraged in motherhood because I want you to know that you're a freaking rockstar and I see you doing all of those hard things day in and day out. You're doing a great job and I really want to take a second to help you to see that too. I'm just going to say it: pregnancy announcements are not a joke and there are a million reasons why.

In today's episode, we're unpacking the topic of using a fake pregnancy announcement as an April Fool's Day joke and how harmful that can be not only via social media, but also within your marriage or social group. I also take some time to empathize with the infertility community and brainstorm some ideas on how you can protect your heart on this day.

I know that a lot of times this joke can be made out of a lack of understanding, so let's talk about it! Let's talk about all of the reasons why this joke really doesn't land the way people expect it to and why people could actually be really triggered by seeing this joke pop up on their social media feed or in real life. The tone for this episode is not to shame those who have done this, but more so to create a sense of empathy and understanding!

I'm just going to say it- kid's birthday parties have gotten out of hand. Social media has completely corrupted our whole perspective on what a successful kid's birthday party should be and when we're constantly seeing these expensive, well executed birthday parties we start to feel less than if we aren't showing up in the same way.

Today's podcast episode breaks this stigma and encourages us to reclaim the joy and simplicity of kid's birthday parties. I encourage you to think about some of the impactful things that you remember from your own childhood birthday parties while also helping you to feel the freedom to throw the party that feels best for you.

Big, lavish parties can be so special- we all know this to be true; however, I want us to come back to a place where it's the "sometimes" thing and not the "always" thing. If you have a birthday coming up in your family, I encourage you to listen to this and I hope you leave this episode feeling a breath of fresh air as you step forward in your parenting journey.

Easter is coming up in just a few short weeks so let's talk about it! There's a lot to be said or done when it comes to Easter and one thing we really value in our family is providing an intentional holiday for our kids. For Easter specifically, we really wanted to focus on how to keep Jesus at the center of everything we do.

In a world that's telling you to buy more or just overload your kids with candy and a basket full of toys, I'm going to encourage you to find ways to be intentional. In today's episode, I'm giving you five easy and sustainable ways to provide a Christ-Centered Easter for your family. This isn't the story I expected to be sharing, but this is the one we get to share.

Many of you have followed our journey to a third baby through social media or through this podcast and now it's time to bring a close to this chapter of our story. Our beta day from our embryo transfer ended differently than we had hoped and when we got the call, we found out that our transfer had failed.

In today's episode, I am sharing this story of grief while also sharing the bits of hope that I still feel are open to us. This episode is real, raw, and vulnerable as I openly share a breakdown of our beta day followed by a highlight of the weeks since we got the call.

If you've experienced a failed embryo transfer, I hope this episode brings you a sense of comfort or support wherever you are in your journey. If you know someone who has gone through this, I hope you find tangible pieces of support that you can pass on to your loved ones.

Don't you wish that you could go back and give yourself a heads up about a few things during a particular hard time in your life?

My husband and I were diagnosed with unexplained infertility in 2018 and we've been through so much ever since the day we got our diagnosis. There are so many things that I wish I could go back and tell myself. Not that it would've made it any easier, but maybe it would've softened the blow? I'm honestly not sure, but I was recently thinking about this whole idea- if I could go back and tell myself a few things, what would I say?

And that's what led to this episode on the podcast! I started making a list and let's just say, that list is rather long. I decided to cut it down to "Six Things I Wish I Knew About Infertility Before Being Diagnosed with It" sharing personal snippets from our story as we navigate this conversation.

Welcome back to another episode of Messy Motherhood! We've been digging into the IVF world a lot lately, but in this week's episode we're going to take a small pivot to help cater our care to the IUI community.

My husband, Alex, and I went through five IUI procedures at the start of our journey and I remember feeling so utterly lost and alone. We didn't know anyone else who was navigating the murky waters of infertility and as our doctor talked about different options, we literally felt like she was speaking another language.

We left that ultrasound with a review of the process all the way up to the mid-cycle ultrasound and this episode continues on from that appointment. We talk you through the emotional, logistical, and mental aspect leading up to the embryo transfer day followed by the full story of our third embryo transfer and what that day looked like for us. We end the episode by touching on the brutal two week wait that comes after the embryo transfer and before signing off, we make sure to give you a bunch of tangible tools or tips to help you know how to support someone going through this.

Our hope with this episode is to help other infertility warriors feel less alone while also helping others to better understand the process of an embryo transfer with IVF. That being said, consider this part journal entry and part informational packet. We wanted to share our own personal experience as we navigate our third embryo transfer, but we also really wanted to help you understand what these days really look like if this is something you're getting ready to step into.
