The twelfth episode is a Valentines special, where we discuss mating systems in the animal world, where parallels to humans are unavoidable. We explain all versions of polygamy and start with how single males get to mate with several females, either through securing resources, fighting off rival males or other tactics. Then, we discuss systems where single females get to mate with several males, either through attracting them or fighting for them. We continue with systems with relaxed bonds between mates and transition into monogamous systems, where we talk about social monogamy, sexual monogamy and how prevalent monogamy really is.
