In this essay I talk about how slavery left a horrible mark in Brazilian society that is plainly felt to this day, and how many white Brazilians pretend they don't live in an extremely racist society. I also discuss how the Brazilian economic elites are incredibly callous, rude and openly treat workers as if they were disposable. An important observation: this was first written in Portuguese on April, 2020, and at that time Covid-19 had killed about 2,000 Brazilians, officially. As of January, 2022, the pandemic's official death toll in Brazil is 620,000 — but since Bolsonaro's far-right government does everything in its power to hide deaths from Covid-19, it is estimated that the real number is closer to a million.

(This essay was 1st published in Portuguese on July, 2020) In this essay, I talk about how pessimist philosophy doesn't owe anything to political conservatism. I discuss how we might believe in political and social progress while still being aware that existence is suffering. Another thing discussed is the idea that in order for one to be an antinatalist, one doesn't have to subscribe to a strong realist meta-ethical stance — that is, one doesn't have to subscribe to the idea that morality is mind-independent. Rather, one can also adopt the stance that morality is put together by thinking agents who consider features of nature, such as pain and suffering.

In this essay I discuss “The Fable of the Dragon-Tyrant”, written by philosopher Nick Bostrom. In the fable, the men-eating dragon represents death, and the story is about the hope that humanity will one day conquer death and become immortal using technology. I argue that death is only one of the harms of existence, which is structurally problematic.
