Our expectations of Jesus are usually off because we come with our needs/desires but don't read what the Bible says about Jesus. Jesus is the promised Messiah and He fulfilled God's word about who the Messiah would be. We need to match our expectations to who the Bible reveals Jesus to be, not who we want Jesus to be.
