We’re trying to figure out what to do for the Mic Warning anniversary, and apparently reasonable ideas are completely off the table. Roman candles get rejected, confetti means too much cleanup, and somehow we eventually land on covering someone in peanut butter and sending them toward a deer.

Riley is back as we also get into smelling salts, bald eagles, ADD vs ADHD, horror movies, our completely incompatible movie tastes, somehow knowing Die Hard without watching it, the Spider-Man timeline, Keelan seeing Avatar nine times, The Bear, Reacher and another unusually efficient round of trivia.

Derek, Keelan and Riley go down a childhood-toy rabbit hole involving Furbies, Wuv Luv, Creepy Crawlers and Kinder Surprise — including the bizarre true story of why the NSA once banned Furbies from its buildings.

Then we get pissed off about streaming services charging us to rent ancient movies, argue about commercials, and finish things off with Riley putting Derek and Keelan through a 20-question trivia battle.

Remember LimeWire, Napster, six-disc CD changers and rewinding cassette tapes with a pencil? This week on Mic Warning, Derek and Keelan look back at the technology we grew up with — and somehow end up asking whether streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video have just reinvented cable.

LimeWire viruses, dial-up internet, buying an entire album for one song, CDs in the car, lost digital photos, streaming subscriptions, ads and the good old days when Netflix mailed DVDs — technology has made everything easier, but we're not convinced it made everything better.

We also get into a ridiculous Kananaskis golf trip, moldy yogurt and Powerade, Michael Peña movies, the comments correcting us, and another round of trivia that immediately proves why you should never assume we know what we're talking about. The trivia runs through Netflix DVDs, the first computer mouse, PEZ, The Beatles, Oxford vs. the Aztec Empire, basketball, Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the first webcam.

Waymo drove over fireworks and kept going, so we did the responsible thing and turned it into a robot-car panic spiral. We also missed Canada Day and the Fourth of July like professionals, complained about 11:30 fireworks, and tried to figure out what happens if an electric self-driving taxi eats an explosion.

Then the episode wandered into our first YouTube Shorts, Spotify doing nothing for us, Vietnam randomly running up our stats, Red Deer being number one for petty crime, Sylvan go-karts charging by the minute, Jersey Mike’s having a lineup, and trivia where Barbie’s full name and Godzilla’s roar caused problems. June monsoon showed up in Alberta and the mosquitoes started acting like they own the place. We talk lawn-cutting in DEET, the kind of thunderstorm that shakes the house at 1 a.m., a dog needing emotional support, and our second video episode making us forget what hands are for.
