  • Michigan Business Beat | Mark Ostach 3 Strategies for Employers to Follow in 2022
Jeffrey Mosher catches up once again with Mark Ostach, a Digital Wellness Author and Expert with Mark Ostach (his company and brand), Beverly Hills, Michigan
Digital Wellness author and expert Mark Ostach works with organizations in Mid- Michigan, across the state of Michigan and in the U.S > to connect in a hybrid workplace. We've had you on previously last spring and summer, and now into 2022 it was a fitting time to reconnect.
A surge of the omicron variant that causes the COVID-19 infection is disrupting the workplace once again. Digital Wellness expert Mark Ostach says employers need to continue to extend patience, encourage wellbeing measures, and flex with purpose. According to Ostach, there are 3 strategies for employers to follow to help cope with the ambiguous covid situation today in the workplace:
Providing support for managers so they can spend less time worried about people working and more time keeping them connected through creative measures like virtual team building and thoughtful icebreaker activities to help break up the transactional nature of daily meetings
Check in with employees on a regular basis to see how they are feeling and how you can support them. People who feel supported are less likely to feel overwhelmed. Oftentimes, just letting them know you are here for support, removes obstacles that they are working all alone.
(How would you) Encourage wellness practices by modeling them yourself. It’s one thing to point to wellness policies and another thing to practice them during the work day. If you can show your staff how to live out wellness practices, they have more permission to do them as well.

  • Media Business | How Media Deals with Business and Public Policy
Tony spends some time with Jarrett Skorup, the director of marketing and communications at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. In this role, he is in charge of marketing efforts, media strategy, and overseeing policy campaigns and objectives. He has worked in a variety of roles at the center since 2009.
Skorup is a graduate of Grove City College with degrees in history and political science. He also studied economics and religion. While there, he was captain of the college's club Ultimate Frisbee and wrestling teams.
His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fox News, National Public Radio, MLive, Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, and many newspapers across the country.
A native of Sandwich, Illinois, Skorup is an avid Chicago sports fan. He also officiates high school wrestling and enjoys fishing and woodworking. In his free time, Skorup volunteers with his church, serves on committees with the local Chamber of Commerce, and works in the schools through Junior Achievement.
He lives in Midland, MI with his wife, Karen, and children Grayson, Reagan, Theodora, and Reece.
Their discussion covers what the Center does, who they serve, dispelling the myth that they're an arm of the Republican party, as they side with any political spectrum issue by issue as long as goals align, essentially more libertarian than right leaning. From there it's a discussion about how media has dealt with policy during COVID and going ahead.
