Jeffrey Mosher spoke with Mike Dergis, Founder and Partner, Sigred Solutions, Ann Arbor, to discuss results from a recent online survey completed by Ann Arbor-based Sigred Solutions.
· An online survey was conducted in March and April 2020 by Sigred Solutions in Ann Arbor, Mich. A total of 100 employers and employees worldwide completed the online survey.
Employee engagement broken down by generation found 41 percent of Generation X feel more engaged now than before the crisis, with 34 percent feeling less engaged. Millennials (most of whom are digital natives) have felt the least impact on their engagement. A full 55 percent of millennials report no changes to their engagement level. The biggest negative impact has been on Baby Boomers with 45 percent reporting that they feel less engaged today.
· Communication was one of the major topics in the survey. Communication has a strong impact on employees’ perception of job security, with 65 percent of respondents to the survey stating that more communication from senior management would increase their sense of job security.
· Moving to a sustainable mix of onsite and remote work will require employers to develop a set of policies and procedures that include:
- Workplace safety
- Technology
- Work-from-Home strategies
- Work/Life balance
· Maintaining engagement in an era of remote work will be a challenge for employers and employees alike. The survey identified the following three drivers of workplace satisfaction:
- The ability to have an impact
- Work/life balance
- Having a sense of responsibility
By measuring the engagement of employees and understanding what is most important to them, employers can coach leaders to make changes that will impact employee engagement and drive improvements to successfully impact the bottom-line.
