One Another (The Path of Biblical Community) Series || Galatians 5:25-26 reminds us that pride and envy go hand in hand. Pride says 'I'm greater than others', and envy says 'therefore I'm more deserving of the things other people have'. But we're also reminded in this chapter that these sins aren't just secret internal sins. If we allow pride and envy to creep into our lives it will lead to biting and devouring one another, which will destroy unity. We must protect against these taking root in our lives by keeping in step with the Spirit.

During these closing words we see examples of how God used individuals within the church to remember, remind, and encourage each other. And it serves as a reminder and encouragement to us that we are new creations in Christ, and our gifts and talents, though different, are used by God to advance and serve His Church.

Lord of All (A Study of Colossians) Series || Charles Spurgeon once issued a warning for us not to place the food high in the trees to feed the giraffes when we are called to feed Jesus' sheep. We need to communicate the Gospel to people in an intelligible manner so that it might resonate with them, which means we must meet people where they are. Colossians 4:2-6 illustrates this point, as well as 4 others, that impact how we ought to think about and approach evangelism.

Lord of All (A Study of Colossians) Series || As we come to the conclusion of the household code section, Paul turns his attention to masters and slaves and their work (Colossians 3:22-4:1). In this sermon we are reminded the importance of context and why we must first view these verses through the lens of 1st century Rome (rather than viewing it through 19th or 21st century America). And ultimately view it through the lens of the Son of Man; who came not to be served, but to serve.

Lord of All (A Study of Colossians) Series || As we continue through the section of household code, Paul outlines what is needed not simply for a well-ordered home, but for a Christ-centered home. A Christ-centered home is one of balance, and we see vs. 20-21 of chapter 3 aim at addressing both children and parents. As NT Wright said regarding these verses, 'Children need discipline; so do parents.' A Christ-centered home is one where Jesus reigns as Lord over the home.

Lord of All (A Study of Colossians) Series || In Colossians 3:18-4:1 Paul lays out a set of household codes, a common practice in ancient Greek and Roman writings. However, Paul's goal here is not to simply outline the steps to a well ordered home. He's outlining the steps to a Christ-centered home, and he starts by describing a Christ-centered marriage.

Lord of All (A Study of Colossians) Series || In the previous sermon (verses 5-11) we learned the importance of putting to death and putting aside things that are not profitable. This message (verses 12-17) focuses us on putting on what is profitable and what this looks like and what it means.
