The port city of Wilmington once had an evil twin, which it conspired against and killed. Metaphorically.

In this history episode we talk about Brunswick Town, the ghost town across the Cape Fear River that fell to ruination at the hands of its competitor city, Wilmington, North Carolina.

We would be remiss to talk about productions in the Wilmington area and completely avoid the television juggernaut that was Dawson's Creek. After watching the pilot episode we sit down with a panel and discuss while "I Don't Want to Wait" plays on a loop in the background.

Episode 008

Once upon a time someone built a concrete ship in Wilmington, North Carolina. The ship was taken over by rum runners, run aground by the hurricane of the century, then taken over again. But this time by zombies. Aquatic zombies. Aquatic Nazi Zombies.

Episode 007

Wilmington has a legacy of shipbuilding predating the well known era of the Liberty Ship, workhorse of World War II. Shipbuilding and wars have historically gone hand in hand, the area seeing a run up in production during the Civil War, at the end of World War I, and of course World War II.

Buckle up for a crash course in this now bygone local industry, as well as anecdotes that sound too crazy to be true. Did a sailor survive a blast by hanging onto a flying mattress? Did top military minds attempt to weaponize the camel in Texas? What is the dark secret of the SS Sapona?

Episode 006

The movie Cyborg threatened the very livelihoods of those it absorbed. The film is a hodgepodge of homages and set pieces from other failed films. Like its namesake, Cyborg itself a hybrid creature, strangely impervious to damage because of all Frankenstein-esque modifications made to it.

This movie was written in a weekend by the director's cat.

Following World War II the U.S, military seized Topsail Island as part of a top secret missile program known as Operation Bumblebee. We visited the island to explore the remnants of the wild west days of missile testing, and attempted to dig up other mysteries lost to the sands of time.
