A very sad week, as we say goodbye to William Friedkin, the director responsible for The French Connection, The Exorcist, Sorcerer, To Live and Die in LA, and many more amazing films. While it's sad whenever we lose an artist, it's also a time to celebrate Friedkin's work and recognize his talents as a filmmaker and raconteur. This week's episode takes a whirlwind tour through Friedkin's career, with some special emphasis on one of Chris' favorite movies from the 80s, To Live and Die in LA (1985), starring William Petersen and Willem Dafoe.

Today, TMMSP remembers Brandon Lee, star of The Crow (1994). Brandon, the son of martial arts movie legend Bruce Lee, was just carving a career path for himself when he filmed The Crow in Wilmington, NC in 1993. A freak accident during filming took Brandon’s life 30 years ago today. Join us for this special episode where @allthings80swithgarrett and I talk about our memories of the movie, of Brandon, and of the impact this tragedy had on filmmaking in NC in the 90s. In this episode, recorded in less than 20 minutes, Chris talks about a nostalgic favorite of his from the early 80s, Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983). Besides being a Bradbury fan, Chris had an English teacher (Coach Vinson!) who nurtured the love for Bradbury by showing the movie in class over two days. Kids of the 80s and 90s remember how movie day in class was like getting a surprise vacation. 

With performances from Jonathan Pryce, Jason Robards, Diane Ladd, and one of Chris' favorites, Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), SWTWC isn't a great movie, but it's a great look at Disney Studios in transition between family movies and movies with more fantasy and horror elements in them. Check it out if you've never seen it, or watch again if it's been a while.
