Midwestern State has a three-game winning streak after sweeping a pair of home games last week, defeating Western New Mexico, 70-60, and winning a physical battle with Eastern New Mexico, 56-53. MSU has now won six of its last seven games. This week, the Mustangs are on the road to face surging Angelo State, which has an eight-game home winning streak. Following Thursday’s contest in San Angelo, the Mustangs make a stop in Odessa to face UT Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon.

Leslie is upbeat about the direction Midwestern State is headed, but there are two dangerous opponents coming to D.L. Midwestern State returned from its holiday break facing two tough opponents on the road. West Texas A&M defeated the Mustangs, 86-71, and Lubbock Christian scored a 74-63 New Year’s Day victory at Rip Griffin Center, where the Chaps have won 111 consecutive games. Reay explains the progress his team is making despite its 3-10 overall record. Reay also discusses putting freshman forward Dyamon Griggs in the starting lineup. Griggs scored 26 against the Lady Buffs, and she finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds against LCU.

Midwestern State played one of its best games of the year against St. Edward’s, but the Hilltoppers managed to hand the Mustangs a 79-75 defeat in a game that saw both teams shoot 50 percent from the field. MSU responded with a wire-to-wire 13-point triumph over St. Mary’s as Jermane Carter recorded his sixth career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Mustangs look to keep momentum on their side when they visit Cameron on Saturday. Tipoff at Aggie Gym is at 3 p.m

Midwestern State ended its six-game slide with a double-overtime victory over St. Mary’s on Monday night. The two-game homestand started with an overtime loss to St. Edward’s after the Mustangs had led the game for nearly 36 and a half minutes. Monday, the Mustangs trailed the Rattlers for a little more than 36 and a half minutes, but Dyamon Griggs and Kennedi Green led MSU back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and the 82-81 victory was an “instant classic.” MSU is back on the road Saturday afternoon to renew the Red River Rivalry against Cameron at Aggie Gym. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.

Midwestern State began its Lone Star Conference campaign at Texas Woman’s, where MSU started well, but the Pioneers defeated the Mustangs, 71-51. MSU traveled to face UT Tyler and jumped to an early lead. The Mustangs entered the fourth quarter trailing by only two points, but the Patriots pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 91-79 victory. Head coach Christopher Reay says his team is focusing on the details before hosting St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s. The Hilltoppers visit D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday at 4 p.m., and the Rattlers visit MSU on Monday with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

Midwestern State opened up conference play with a heartbreaking 58-56 loss at Dallas Baptist, and the Mustangs were defeated by UT Tyler at the Patriot Center two nights later, 76-56. MSU is 0-2 in the LSC with a pair of conference foes coming to D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
