Enjoy another episode of Behind the Story with the Author where Mabel Elizabeth Singletary shares the inspiration behind the third book in The Double Dutch Club Series -A Promise and A Rainbow.
This is an encore presentation of Chapter 16 - A Day to Remember part 2.
In our last episode, it was the night before the big block party and Rachel had difficulty sleeping because she still hadn't finished her poem. Aunt Marion surprised Rachel and Veronica with beautiful new dresses in their favorite colors. Things took a turn for the worse when an unexpected storm appeared and put their event in jeopardy.
Last week, Rachel and her friends were challenged to recognize their individual gifts and talents and encouraged by her Aunt Marion to present them to the community. Rachel finally admitted that she liked to write poetry. However, the problem she faced was finding the confidence and the courage to share one of her poems with everyone.
In our last episode, Rachel and the girls were excited to hear that they were not just going to have a beauty pageant and Double Dutch demonstration, but the event was going to be a neighborhood block party.
Veronica also learned a lesson about the rules of Double Dutch - first you turn, then you jump.
At this point, all the girls were looking forward to sharing something wonderful with their community.
Last week, Rachel, Veronica, and Marguerita agreed to have a Double Dutch demonstration and a beauty pageant for the community but didn't know where to begin. Things began looking up when they met with Mrs. Agnes Miller. They hoped she had the answers they needed to get started. Instead, she challenged them to do what they could and told them to come back to her in two weeks. They wanted to show Mrs. Miller some progress, so the girls knew it was time to get to work.
In our last episode, Rachel began to see Veronica differently. One she learned of Veronica's illness; she understood the reason behind her cousin's bad attitude and why she had not been given the chance to meet any of Veronica's friends.
In our last episode, Rachel was surprised when Veronica agreed to invite some of her friends over. The afternoon would become even more special because Veronica's mom said she would prepare lunch. Unfortunately, after waiting for more than an hour, the luncheon never happened. At least this time, Rachel came to understand the problem.
In Chapter 10, Rachel's Aunt Marion believed Rachel and her cousin Veronica were getting along nicely. She even compared them to herself and Rachel's mom when they were girls. Unfortunately, Rachel couldn't get up the nerve to tell Aunt Marion how wrong he was. She decided to stay silent about the discourteous treatment she was receiving from Veronica every day.
In Chapter 9, we found that things weren't going so well for Rachel. Her parents were headed back to New Jersey and Veronica had made it clear that she was in charge. While remembering what her father said about showing kindness to others, Rachel couldn't see how she and Veronica could ever be Friends.
