Data from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority shows illegal fishing prosecutions have more than tripled in the Northern Territory this year, as rangers report a concerning spike in arrivals.
In response, Aboriginal ranger groups and the Northern Land Council want more enforcement powers to deal with the issue. Australian Border Force (ABF) said a new Indigenous-led plan is being formed alongside ranger groups to better deal with border protection challenges in Australia’s Top End.
