Leaders of ASEAN are holding closed-door talks at the summit in Kuala Lumpur—seen as a prelude and preparation for expanded discussions with the Gulf Cooperation Council and China’s Premier Li Qiang.
➡️ “The geopolitical wind has been shifting and for the last couple months already, the countries are preparing for Plan B and they cannot just follow the traditional pattern of trade relations and investment,” says AIIB President Jin Liqun.
➡️ There is a possibility that discussions will extend beyond economic issues and may potentially bring up the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, South China Sea and Gaza because of its interest among many members in Southeast Asia.
