A Long March 2F rocket carrying the Shenzhou-20 manned spacecraft lifted off at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. It is carrying mission commander Chen Dong and crew members Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie to the China Space Station, which is currently manned by their Shenzhou-19 peers. The Shenzhou-20 spacecraft entered its preset orbital position smoothly. Staff at the launch site and people watching China's 15th manned spaceflight launch expressed joy and excitement. CGTN reporter Zheng Yibing was there and sent this report immediately after the launch.

The three astronauts on China's Shenzhou-20 spaceflight mission have entered the China Space Station and met with the Shenzhou-19 crew, marking the start of a new round of in-orbit crew handover.

The Shenzhou-19 crew opened the hatch at 1:17 a.m. to greet the new arrivals, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The six astronauts then took group photos to commemorate the sixth crew gathering in China's aerospace history.

They will live and work together for about five days to complete scheduled tasks and the handover process, the CMSA said.

The Shenzhou-19 crew is scheduled to return to the Dongfeng landing site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on April 29.

On April 24, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that scientists from institutions in France, Germany, Japan, Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States have been granted the opportunity to borrow lunar samples collected by the Chang'e-5 mission for scientific research.
