Naboo was a Mid-Rim planet most well known for being the homeworld of Emperor Palpatine. Its native people were the Gungans, who fought against human colonists who arrived about four thousand years before Palpatine’s rise to power. They eventually found a tenuous peace, but the two groups strongly mistrusted one another. Naboo didn’t join the Galactic Republic until the year 867 BBY, an event that was celebrated in what they called the Festival of Light. It became known as a world dedicated to the arts as well as democracy. They were ruled by an elected monarch, who would often be a young, teenage girl, although many kings were elected throughout their history. Their primary export was plasma, which was found in the planet’s crust, and was used to power their cities. Its core was a mystery to scientists, because it was not molten, but was instead simply made up of oceans and caves. Naboo became central to galactic history when Sheev Palpatine orchestrated a blockade of his homeworld through the Trade Federation, which helped his rise to become Supreme Chancellor, and set the stage for the Clone Wars, which he would use to proclaim himself Emperor of the Galaxy. After his death, Naboo would become a target of Operation Cinder, but New Republic forces assisted the planetary military against the failing Empire. #starwars

How did Palpatine return? The answer to that question can be found in The Rise of Skywalker novelization and The Bad Batch animated series. The Emperor basically survived the same way he did in Star Wars Legends. As he fell down the second Death Star’s reactor shaft, he transferred his consciousness to some prepared clone bodies. Unfortunately for him, the cloned vessel wasn’t strong enough to contain his spirit and it began to quickly decay. The Empire began to unlock the secrets to creating clones with strong midi-chlorian counts immediately after the end of the Clone Wars in a secret installation called Mount Tantiss. Project Necromancer involved the blood of a young clone named Omega, who was held in their facility. But her brothers, a group of enhanced clones called the Bad Batch, rescued her and inadvertently ruined Palpatine’s plans. The Empire had to start from scratch without Omega’s blood, and their research wasn’t completed in time for the Emperor’s near death at the Battle of Endor. #starwars

Why wasn’t the Holdo Maneuver used more frequently? The Last Jedi novelization by Jason Fry goes into a lot of details about how the Raddus’s experimental shields were actually responsible for most of the damage from the Holdo Maneuver in The Last Jedi. I also don’t think she necessarily knew what would happen when she entered hyperspace, I think she was acting out of desperation to save the rest of the Resistance. As Poe says later in The Rise of Skywalker, it was a one in a million shot. It’s not a strategy that can be dependably relied upon, because there’s no guarantee it will work. I think it’s silly to say that in a movie and then show it happening later in the exact same movie…but that’s a topic for another time. Despite it being established as a near impossible maneuver to replicate, fans have wondered why we haven’t seen it happen before. But…we have. In the Star Wars Legends comic Dark Empire Two, the resurrected Emperor uses a superweapon called the Galaxy Gun that weaponized hyperspace to a degree. And he said, “Marvelous. It’s a wonder we didn’t think of it decades ago.” I know the Galaxy Gun didn’t work exactly like a bunch of Holdo Maneuvers, but my point is that someone had to be the first to successfully do something like this. Maybe it had been attempted before and failed, but now people can study what Holdo did and crack the case. The fact of the matter is, we know very little about how hyperspace even works. I assume there is a reason people don’t go around ramming things at light speed willy nilly, even if I don’t know what that specific reason is. #starwars

How did the First Order find the Resistance base? General Hux tells Snoke the First Order tracked the Resistance reconnaissance ship back to the Ileenium system, but the Poe Dameron comic by Charles Soule tells that story in more detail. Snap Wexley and his wife, Kare Kun made the run together, attempting a stealth run in a bare bones ship that flew close enough to scan Starkiller Base. But the tiny ship nearly fell apart in the superweapon’s atmosphere, and may have alerted the First Order to the infiltration, allowing them to track the recon mission back to D’Qar, maybe using the same technology seen in The Last Jedi to continue tracking the Resistance fleet through hyperspace. #starwars

Did Palpatine kill Padme, taking her own life force to keep Darth Vader alive? This is a fan theory I’ve seen thrown around a lot, I think in an effort to make some sense out of Padme losing the will to live. Which…isn’t the greatest story decision, so I get why the theory started. But no, I don’t think there is anything to suggest Palpatine is doing that, and if he were, I think that would take away some of the depth of the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. He is so afraid to lose Padme, that he goes to horrific lengths to save her. But his journey into the dark side is what causes her death. Even if she had survived, he would have driven her away. Even if, “Losing the will to live,” is a very poor medical diagnosis, having Padme’s death be the fault of Anakin has way more weight than Palpatine killing her. #starwars
