Why does Kylo Ren keep punching himself during his duel with Finn and Rey? I like to think it was to give him an edge in the fight. The Darth Bane Trilogy of books goes into how Sith or other dark siders can use their physical pain to fuel their rage and therefore their strength in the dark side of the Force. Bane himself wore living armor that caused him *constant* pain, which he twisted into power. Kylo Ren had just been shot by Chewie’s bowcaster, which we’ve seen can do massive damage. He’s honestly probably hitting it to fuel himself up with adrenaline, but I see no reason why he couldn’t also be using that pain to strengthen his connection to the dark side of the Force. #starwars

The Sith Order was created as a splinter group of the Jedi. They sought more power through the use of the dark side of the Force, and their initial split became known as the Hundred Year Darkness. We don’t know exactly when that took place, but the Star Wars Timelines book places it around five thousand years before the time of the Skywalkers. Corrupted by the dark side, they conquered and enslaved worlds, establishing strongholds and temples on planets like Moraband, Exegol, and Malachor. They even took control of Coruscant for a time, building a shrine where the Jedi Temple would one day stand. After about four thousand years of war, the Sith were finally defeated and thought to be extinct. But one sole survivor named Darth Bane started the Rule of Two and took on a single apprentice. The Sith continued on in secret, building up political power, until the Sith Lord Darth Sidious legally took control of the Galactic Senate and used his power to destroy the Jedi Order. He reigned as Emperor for nearly two decades until he was killed by his apprentice, Darth Vader, but his spirit fled to Exegol, where once again, the Sith survived in secret. Sidious built up his forces for thirty years and died during his final attempt to retake control of the galaxy, defeated by his granddaughter, Rey, who became the first in a new line of Jedi. The Sith were responsible for the fall of the Old Republic, reformation into the Galactic Republic, transition into the Galactic Empire, and rise of the First Order, all in about one thousand years’ time. They arguably affected the power shifts of the galaxy more than any other group in galactic history. #starwars #sith

When was Poe Dameron a spice runner? Zorii Bliss makes it sound like Poe was part of her crew right before he joined the Resistance, but the book Free Fall by Alex Segura clears up the timeline. When Poe was sixteen years old he ran away from home and fell in with the Spice Runners of Kijimi for a year. He developed a relationship with Zorii, but eventually realized that he couldn’t go on living life as a criminal. He betrayed the Spice Runners and even Zorii who wanted to run away with him. That all took place about seventeen years before the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Eight years later, when Poe was about twenty five, he joined the New Republic Navy, and four years after that he joined the Resistance. The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary says Poe spent five years as a Spice Runner, but I would go with the novel’s timeline of one year over the reference book. #starwars

Who married Anakin and Padme? Maxiron Agolerga, a Pontifex of the Brotherhood of Cognizance, performed the marriage ceremony. He belonged to an order of hermits on Naboo. Thanks to his seclusion, he didn’t know Padme or Anakin’s true identities, and they used aliases during the ceremony. According to the Legends reference book Jedi Versus Sith, The Essential Guide to the Force, Maxiron did eventually discover who he had married, and passed the information onto one of Padme’s nieces. #starwars

Coruscant was one of the most important worlds in the Star Wars galaxy. Its planet wide city began construction one hundred thousand years before the events of the films, and continued until it reached over five thousand levels high. The lowest levels became uninhabitable and unreachable by sunlight. The wealthy who lived on the upper levels enjoyed climate-controlled weather, and could visit the peak of Umate, one of the final pieces of untouched land on the planet. Coruscant was one of the founders of the Old Republic, and served as the capital of the galaxy for over twenty five thousand years. It also served as the primary headquarters of the Jedi Order, and was an important site to their Sith enemies throughout history. After the fall of the Galactic Empire, the New Republic rotated their capital throughout the galaxy to avoid favoritism of the Core Worlds…but Coruscant still served as a vital part of its infrastructure, even when the Senate wasn’t meeting there. Many throughout the galaxy considered Coruscant to be the homeworld of humanity, but that fact was disputed and unconfirmed. #starwars
