Why doesn’t Leia hug Chewie? It was an unfortunate oversight, plain and simple. JJ Abrams said, “That was probably one of the mistakes I made. Had Chewbacca not been where he was, you probably wouldn’t have thought of it. But because he was right there, and passed by Leia, it felt almost like a slight, which was definitely not the intention.” Abrams went on to say that “My thinking at the time was that Chewbacca, despite the pain he was feeling, was focused on trying to save Finn and getting him taken care of.” To me this is all kind of like Chewie getting his medal off screen in A New Hope. I really wish we saw it happen in the movie, but I’m sure Leia and Chewie had a long hug off screen, the same way Chewie got his medal off screen. #starwars

The Galactic Republic was formed out of the Old Republic about one thousand years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker. For nearly that entire millennium the galaxy experienced peace. That’s not to say planetary or regional conflicts didn’t arise, but there weren’t any galactic level wars similar to the Sith or Clone Wars. For five centuries the Republic thrived and expanded, welcoming new worlds into an era of prosperity. This time became known as the High Republic, when both the Republic and the Jedi Order were at their height of power, influence, and idealism. But their decline would begin when a group of Outer Rim marauders called the Nihil terrorized a corner of the galaxy, opposing the Republic’s spread. The Jedi enacted what they called the Guardian Protocols, a set of rules that pushed them into becoming more like soldiers. Although the Nihil were defeated, the Jedi were fundamentally changed, and the Republic became more corrupt. The Sith Lord Darth Sidious took advantage of that corruption, manipulating several crises culminating in the Clone Wars, and causing his rise to become Supreme Chancellor. When his power was solidified, he wiped out the Jedi, ended the Clone Wars, and changed the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire, a decision that was met with thunderous applause. #starwars #galacticrepublic

Who was John Williams’ cameo character in The Rise of Skywalker? Oma Tres was the bartender working in the Spice Runners’ Den on Kijimi. According to Williams, he at first turned down the chance to appear, just like George Lucas did in Revenge of the Sith. But once again, a family member convinced him to have some fun. This time it was John’s wife, Samantha. On the shelves behind Oma Tres are fifty one props that were created to represent the many films he has scored during his career, including barrels from Jaws, a whip from Indiana Jones, an iron from Home Alone, and so on. The character’s name, Oma Tres, is an anagram of the word maestro. #starwars

Did Jango Fett know about Order 66? In Star Wars Legends, he definitely knew the true purpose of the clone army was to destroy the Jedi. After being hired for the job, Dooku straight up tells him, “Your clones will be the most formidable soldiers the galaxy has ever known. In time, they will be instrumental in the destruction of the Jedi.” Jango held a grudge against the Jedi, and wanted to wipe them out. In canon, we don’t have such a definitive answer. Jango does give Obi-Wan Kenobi a smug look when he guarantees the Jedi his clones will do their job well. But the Age of Republic comics show us an alternate version of how he was hired by Darth Tyranus. No mention is made of destroying the Jedi…but Dooku does applaud Jango’s discretion. So it’s possible he knew the clones would be used to destroy the Jedi. Personally, I don’t think Sidious would tell a mercenary that detail unless he absolutely had to. But right now, I think the canon answer to this is up for debate. #starwars

Geonosis was a desert world located in the Outer Rim not too far from Tatooine. The Geonosian people largely lived in underground cities and caves because the surface of the planet was irradiated. Despite their primitive appearance, Geonosians were highly skilled engineers, and were central to the manufacture of the droid armies that fought in the Clone Wars. When their Archduke, Poggle the Lesser, was captured, the Republic learned that they also had plans to develop a planet-killing superweapon. The Republic, at Chancellor Palpatine’s insistence, forced the Geonosians to build the weapon for them instead of the Separatists. When the Clone Wars came to an end, construction was well underway. Delays in the development of the superlaser caused the Empire to move construction to Scarif, and the Geonosian people were nearly exterminated. But the egg of a queen survived and was cared for. Unfortunately she was only able to create new battle droids. Even more unfortunately, Darth Vader stole most of her machinery and decimated her children. The Empire attempted to restart the droid factories of Geonosis after the death of Emperor Palpatine, but were foiled by New Republic forces. #starwars

What is lightspeed skipping? We see the first time Poe Dameron lightspeed skips in the book Free Fall. As part of the Spice Runners of Kijimi, Poe’s team’s ship is tracked by some rivals who are hot on their tail. To escape, they skip through hyperspace to buy enough time to find and disable the homing beacon that had been planted on their ship. The technique was described as jumping along a series of preset coordinates that would appear random, but were actually dangerous locations known to Poe’s crew. Places with lots of obstructions that would slow down or destroy their enemies. Even though they weren’t random jumps, lightspeed skipping was a move of desperation that would put a dangerous amount of strain on any ship that tried it. #starwars

What happened to the porgs on the Millennium Falcon? Don’t worry, they’re all fine, and we know that thanks to the book Pirate’s Price, the Star Wars Adventures comics, Galaxy’s Edge, and Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. Basically when the Resistance established a base on Batuu and the Millennium Falcon was parked in Black Spire Outpost, all the porg stowaways began to thrive on the new world. Two of them became companions of the pirate Hondo Ohnaka who named them Puffy and Snappy. The porgs on Batuu reproduced and began living in the cliffs of the planet, which were somewhat similar to their natural habitat on Ahch-To. Some were domesticated and sold as pets in the market and a drink was named after the critters in Oga’s Cantina. #starwars
