"A full capacity Glastonbury holds 210,000 people. That's equivalent to the seventh largest city in the U.K.. The rest of the year, 1,000 live here in Pilton. That is equivalent to the number of cows that normally live in these fields. Where are they now? They've been set off for a short stay at the Moo-tel. Created in 1970 by Michael Eavis, Glastonbury is now the biggest greenfield music and art event in the world. It covers 1,00 acres, which is roughly the size of 500 soccer pitches. And it's surrounded by an 8km fence. This year's ticket sold out back in November in 35 minutes and that was before a single act was announced. So, you may be wondering - big crowds, lots of beer, how many toilets are there at Glastonbury? In fact there are over 4,000. Behind me is one of the infamous long drops. As you can see you can pee in the open air but just don't look down. Largest crowd ever? Elton John's farewell gig in 2023 had an estimated 120,000 people watching. I stood around here. And what artist is headlining Glastonbury the most? Coldplay, five times. 3,972 artists will perform at Glastonbury this weekend across 120 stages, only 21 of them get to perform on the iconic Pyramid Stage behind me. This year's headliners include 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo. And there's no fear of the beer running out, there's 1.2 million pints of lager served over the weekend. And here's mine. Cheers!"

STORYLINE:

Beads of sweat drip from the faces of young girls and boys as they dance to the rhythm of traditional drums and open calabashes.

These are refugee children. Some were born here in one of Africa’s largest camps.

Kakuma is located in northern Kenya, where more than 300,000 refugees’ livelihoods have been affected by funding cuts that have halved monthly food rations.

The children use the Acholi traditional dance as a distraction from hunger, perfecting a survival skill to skip lunches as they stretch their monthly food rations that are currently at 30% of the U.N nutritional recommendation per person.

The Acholi people, mostly from Uganda and South Sudan, are among refugees who live in Kakuma camp, which was established in 1992 as a safe haven for people fleeing conflict from dozens of east African countries.

The Swiss organization, Terre des hommes, manages the playground here. It's aptly named “Furaha” — Swahili for Happiness.

John Wani, a social worker at Terre Des Hommes, says: “We have to keep the culture alive because (of) the moral values they learn from it and also, message of peace.”

But the happiness of these children isn't guaranteed now as funding cuts have affected operations here. Less resources and fewer staff are available ... [truncated]

STORYLINE:

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Iran war - now halted by a ceasefire - Iranian dissident groups inside and outside of the country have been watching for signs that the government in Tehran might falter.

They include a handful of exiled Kurdish Iranian dissident groups based in northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region, where there has been a point of friction between Iraqi authorities and Tehran.

In 2023 Iran and Iraq reached an agreement to disarm members of Iranian Kurdish dissident groups based in northern Iraq and move their members from bases near the border to camps designated by the government in Baghdad.

While the bases were shut down, the groups have not given up their weapons completely.

In interviews with the Associated Press, officials with two of the prominent Iranian Kurdish groups in Iraq said they are trying to organize politically to ensure that the Kurds will not be sidelined should the current Iranian government lose its hold on power.

Veneto Gov. Luca Zaia has strongly defended the wedding as an economic and reputational boon for Venice, saying the price tag he had seen was between 40 million and 48 million euros ($46.7 million to $56 million). 

The wedding has divided Venice, with some activists protesting it as an exploitation of the city by Bezos while ordinary residents suffer from overtourism, high housing costs and the constant threat of climate-induced flooding.

STORYLINE:

A Spanish naval ship docked in Indonesia is giving visitors a rare chance to step onboard a foreign military vessel.

“The military technology inside is amazing, as ordinary people, it's very cool," said visitor Mula Hendrik, after touring Spain's frigate Mendez Nunez at the Tanjung Priok Port of Jakarta.

Méndez Nunez is part of Spain’s contribution to joint NATO naval efforts in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Spanish warship will be joining a multinational aircraft carrier strike group, lead by Britain's HMS Prince of Wales.

“We are training together to be able to operate in a real case to know on how to communicate, to understand the orders, so it's very important as NATO countries to make this exercise,” Javier Ferrao, an officer at Méndez Núñez said.

Britain's Royal Navy frigate HMS Richmond is also docked at the same port and shares the same mission.

Kenya's northern Kakuma refugee camp is home to more than 300,000 people, who've fled conflict in dozens of east Africa countries.

For the children there, traditional and modern dances are helping them to distract themselves, as they face an uncertain future due to funding cuts.

STORYLINE :

Beads of sweat drip from the faces of young girls and boys as they dance to the rhythm of traditional drums and open calabashes.
