STORYLINE:

Israel’s air force carried out intense airstrikes on mountains overlooking a city in southern Lebanon Friday in an attack that the Israeli military said targeted underground assets of militant Hezbollah group.

Shortly afterward, another strike hit a building killing one person and wounding 11.

The airstrike on an apartment in a building in the city of Nabatieh left one woman dead and 11 wounded and knocked out the top floor, according to state media and an Associated Press journalist at the scene.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was targeted in the building.

The airstrikes that happened nearly an hour before, came in two waves on the mountains overlooking Nabatieh and bunker buster bombs were used, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported. There was no immediate information about casualties.

Since the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in November, Israel has carried out almost daily airstrikes on southern Lebanon. Friday’s strikes were more intense than usual.

The Israeli military said in a statement that its fighter jets struck a site used by Hezbollah to manage its fire and defense array in the area and is part of a significant underground project that was completely taken out of use.

The Israeli army said it identified rehabilitation attempts by Hezbollah beforehand and struck infrastructure sites in the area.

There was no comment from Hezbollah.

Hezbollah suffered significant losses on the battlefield during the war, which left over 4,000 people dead in Lebanon and caused destruction worth $11 billions. In Israel, 127 people died, including 80 soldiers.

As part of the ceasefire deal, Hezbollah was pushed away from areas bordering Israel in south Lebanon and is not allowed to have an armed presence south of the Litani River.

Friday’s airstrikes were north of the river.

Ukraine on Thursday returned home a new group of prisoners of war as part of an ongoing large-scale exchange with Russia, the country’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said.

The release, carried out under the Istanbul agreements, included wounded troops and soldiers with health issues, as well as several defenders under the age of 25.

Many of the freed servicemembers had spent more than three years in Russian captivity, with a significant number taken prisoner during the 2022 defense of Mariupol.

Hundreds of families of POWs and missing Ukrainian servicemen gathered near the hospital hoping to find their loved ones or information about them among others. 

This exchange brought happiness to 53-year-old Svitlana Nosal whose husband Viktor was captured in Mariupol 38 months ago.

She hugged him and said that now he has a grandson who was named by him.

"It is a real happiness," said Svitlana Nosal.

Among the crowd, 11-year-old Hordii Zavatskyi holds the portrait of his father Mykola who was missing 18 month ago in the Bakhmut direction.

His biggest dream is to see his father. The boy attends every protest and exchange with his mother Tetiana.

"I'm here because I want my dad back, so I can see him, hug him," said Hordii Zavatskyi.

The youngest returned defender is 24 and was captured at age 21 in Mariupol. The oldest is 62.

Several National Guard servicemen who had been captured while guarding the Chornobyl nuclear power plant were also freed.

More exchanges are expected soon, the message said.

In Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, China-Europe Railway Express and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor are handling thousands of freight trains annually to Europe, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Despite of a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers from the nearest sea port, it is a key logistics and trade hub in southwest China, serving as a critical node in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), connecting domestic and international markets through rail, road, and multi-modal transport.

In May 2025, Chongqing’s logistics hub saw double-digits growth, led by China-Europe rail and ASEAN trade.

About 20 trains depart here every day, some head towards Russia, others towards Europe passing through central Asia.

Top exports include electronic products, EVs and machinery, and top imports include auto parts, luxury goods and medical equipment.

Nine-hundred kilometers downstream of Chongqing along the Yangtze River is the Yangluo port in China’s central city of Wuhan.

At a busy interchange in central Bangkok, a roadside cannabis store is feeling the impact of a new law in Thailand banning the sale of cannabis to those without a prescription.

The "420 Cafe x Booze 21" cannabis store can now only sell to a select group of customers buying for medical reasons.

The change comes three years after Thailand became the first country in Asia to decriminalize the plant.

The new order, signed by Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin earlier this week and which came into effect on Thursday, bans shops from selling cannabis to customers without a prescription and reclassifies cannabis buds as a controlled herb.

A violation could result in a maximum one-year jail term and a 20,000-baht ($614) fine, according to the order.
