"The need of a new church is born naturally because we still have all this services going on with our weddings and funerals and so on. So, that's a mutual need, here in this parish. And right now, we begin with this Tiny Church. And it's a temporary church. You can tear it down and put it up some other place where there's another need in another parish, maybe in Denmark."

STORYLINE:
On the outskirts of Copenhagen, this round, tall wooden building is the latest addition to the Danish capital’s skyline - a “Tiny Church”.
Situated in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn - “North Harbour” - district, it’s responding to a spiritual need that’s arisen.
The Danish capital’s population is expected to grow by 20 percent over the next decade.
This former fishing port is seeing an influx of new housing projects, bringing with them an estimated 40,000 new residents over the next four decades.
As plans for a new church building sat on the drawing board, members of the local Evangelical-Lutheran Hans Egedes Church parish knew they needed a solution… and fast.
"At the old days, you build a church, and the church will make a community, and then you build the city. Today, it's the opposite,” explains project manager Johanne Dal-Lewkovitch, standing amid busy construction workers.
“You build the city, and then there's a need for a church. So, it's a little bit strange."
The “Tiny Church” concept was first seen in Amsterdam suburb Almere Poort, where Dutch church leaders saw the need for a new location where believers could meet, talk and worship together.
