    STORYLINE:
    Mourners are paying their respects to former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel as his body lies in state Thursday at New York City Hall, an honor bestowed to a short list of political figures, including U.S. presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.
    The outspoken, gravel-voiced Harlem Democrat died May 26 at the age of 94 after spending nearly five decades on Capitol Hill. Rangel was among the longest serving House members, a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and chairman of one the chamber's most powerful committees.
    On Thursday morning, a small group of mourners quietly came to pay their respects in City Hall, a landmark neoclassical building at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, as the surrounding streets of lower Manhattan bustled with tourists and workers.
    Rangel’s closed casket sat in the building’s marbled rotunda draped with an American flag. Uniformed police stood at rigid attention on either side of him, backed by the state and nation’s flags.
    Besides Presidents Lincoln and Grant, the others accorded the City Hall honors after death include statesman Henry Clay, newspaper publisher Horace Greeley and Civil War generals Abner Doubleday and Joseph Hooker.
    The last person to lie in state in City Hall was City Councilman James Davis, who was assassinated by a political opponent in the council’s chambers, located the floor above the rotunda, in 2003.

    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Hwang Dong-Hyuk, creator/writer/director:
    “Also, he was on diet for a year because he has to be, like, skinny for the whole time of shooting, so it must have been very hard for him.”
    3. SOUNDBITE (English) Park Gyu-Young and Lee Byung-Hun, actors – on the challenges of filming:
    Park Gyu-Young: “It’s really hard – I feel really hard to wear the suit and it’s, like, really hard to talk inside the mask, so it was tough.”

    Washington – 12 June 2025
    1. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Mark Kelly, (D) Arizona:
    “Hey, every U.S. Senator has a right to go in a federal building. It's their job to ask questions of, I don't care who it is, if it's his cabinet secretary, and he has the right to be there. He left here yesterday. I talked to him about it. That he was going back to L.A. because of what this administration has done and made a situation that was manageable much worse. And to force him out of what I thought was a press conference, that's my understanding, it's just, again, inflaming the situation. And he had every right to be there to ask, if the press is asking the Secretary questions, a U.S. Senator should be able to go into a federal building and ask questions.”

And I know I speak for millions and millions of Californians, we are grateful to have Senator Padilla's leadership. He is well respected here on both sides of the aisle. We're proud of him standing up for our mutual constituents. And the way he was treated and abused today is just disgraceful.”

    Firefighters doused the smoking wreckage of the plane, which would have been fully loaded with fuel shortly after takeoff, and adjacent multistory buildings with water. Charred bodies lay on the ground and parts of the fuselage were scattered around the site.

    New York - 12 June 2025
    1. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael R. Sisak, The Associated Press: ++
    ++PARTIALLY COVERED++
    "Harvey Weinstein's MeToo retrial is over. The judge on Thursday declared a mistrial on the last of three counts. The jury said it could not reach a verdict on rape in the third degree as it related to an allegation made by aspiring actor Jessica Mann. She says Harvey Weinstein raped her in 2013. Now the judge made this ruling after the jury couldn't deliberate any longer. The jury foreman said that he felt bullied by other jurors and did not wanna go back into the jury deliberation room. When he came to court on Thursday, he was put in a separate room, while the 11 other jurors remained in the jury deliberation room. And because all 12 weren't together, they couldn't start, restart, weighing that last charge. Now, prosecutors have said that they will retry Weinstein again on that rape in the third degree charge. Weinstein's lawyers say that's a waste of time. They argue that Weinstein has already served the prison time that he would be sentenced to if he is convicted on that charge."

    ++PARTIALLY COVERED++
    "I'm here in Los Angeles today, and I was here in the federal building, in the conference room awaiting a scheduled briefing from federal officials as part of my responsibility as a senator to provide oversight and accountability. While I was waiting for the briefing with General Guillot, I learned that Secretary Noem was having a press conference a couple of doors down the hall. Since the beginning of the year, but especially over the course of the last… over the course of recent weeks, I, several of my colleagues, have been asking the Department of Homeland Security for more information and more answers on their increasingly extreme immigration enforcement actions. And we've gotten little to no information in response to our inquiries. And so, I came to the press conference to hear what she had to say, to see if I could learn any you additional information. And at one point, I had a question. And let me emphasize, just as we emphasize the right for people to peacefully protest and to stand up for their First Amendment rights, for our fundamental rights, I was there peacefully. At one point I had question. And so I began to ask a question. I was almost immediately forcibly removed from the room, I was forced to the ground, and I was handcuffed. I was not arrested. I was no detained. I will say this, If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, if this is how the Department of Homeland Security responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California and throughout the country. We will hold this administration accountable."
