We are facing challenges of both drought and flood due to climate change. These unprecedented conditions happen due to climate change and global warming which need to be addressed. It is a challenge. One of the big challenges that the world will have to face in the future is climate change.”
    10. Various shots of Indus River flowing with low water levels
    STORYLINE:
Summer in Pakistan’s Sindh province and the water canals bringing much needed moisture to the fields are dry.
Water levels in the Indus river are low and local farmers are unable to sow their crops due to unavailability of water for irrigation.
The farmers usually sow at this time of the year after the end of the spring harvest.
This year the second harvest will not be possible.
“I had cultivated chickpeas and wheat on my land in the previous sowing season. When the crops were about to be completed, I could not get enough water and the production of wheat crops was reduced, and I could not get a sufficient price for my crops. Now, we have prepared land for cultivation, and I am waiting for water. I am planning to sow rice, onion, and chickpeas. If we get water, then we will proceed for cultivation, if not then we will wait, otherwise could not do anything on it,” says farmer Ghulam Hussain Soomro.
The banana crop, one of the major fruit crops in Sindh province, has been damaged by lack of water and extreme heat.

    2. New Jersey Republican candidate for governor Jack Ciattarelli at podium as crowd cheers
UPSOUND (English) Jack Ciattarelli, (R) New Jersey gubernatorial candidate:
"We're not done. We are not done."
    STORYLINE:
Republican Jack Ciattarelli, who had U.S. President Donald Trump's endorsement, and Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill won their primary elections in New Jersey's race for governor, setting the stage for a November election, poised to be fought in part over affordability and the president's policies.
Sherrill emerged from a crowded field of five experienced rivals on the strength of her biography as a Navy pilot and former prosecutor who has been a vocal critic of Trump.
In a victory speech, she criticized Ciattarelli as a “lackey” of the president's, invoked New Jersey's role in the American Revolution and hinted at the state's role as one of just two holding a race for governor a year after the presidential election.
“New Jersey once again stands at the front lines," she said. “We are in an American crisis, but not in a war for independence but a fight for our future.”
Ciattarelli, a former state lawmaker and small businessman, defeated four rivals. He now heads into the general election seeking to win back the governorship for Republicans after two straight Democratic victories and hoping to build on his 2021 performance when he came within a few percentage points of defeating the current governor, Democrat Phil Murphy.
Speaking to supporters after his victory Tuesday night, he thanked Trump for endorsing him, telling the crowd “we won because we were positive, we had the issues that matter.”
Sherrill defeated a fellow House member, the mayors of the state’s two biggest cities, a former top state legislator and the head of the influential teacher’s union.
The general election will undoubtedly cover New Jersey issues, like the high cost of living and sky high property taxes. But it also sets up a clear test for the president, a part-time resident with a long history in New Jersey, who waded into the contest on Ciattarelli’s side and was assailed by Sherrill throughout the primary campaign.
She becomes the Democrats’ standard-bearer at a time when the state party is looking to win the governorship for a third straight term and the national party is looking for leadership and a message that resonates with voters.
Sherrill overcame fellow Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Mayors Ras Baraka of Newark and Steven Fulop of Jersey City, former state Senate President Steve Sweeney and New Jersey Education Association... [truncated]

    STORYLINE:
Mourners gathered at a school in Austria’s second-biggest city on Tuesday morning, where a former student opened fire on Monday, killing 10 people and injuring many others before taking his own life.
Some arrived with flowers at a makeshift memorial ahead of a minute of silence scheduled later this morning.
As Austria mourned the victims of what appeared to be the deadliest attack in its post-World War II history, questions remained about the motive of the shooter.
The 21-year-old Austrian man lived near Graz and was a former student at the BORG Dreierschützengasse high school, in Austria's second-biggest city, who hadn't completed his studies. Police have said that he used two weapons, a shotgun and a handgun, which he appeared to have owned legally.
Police didn't elaborate on investigators' findings in a brief post on social network X. But a senior official who acknowledged that the letter had been found on Tuesday night said it hadn't allowed them to draw conclusions.

    STORYLINE:
Los Angeles police swiftly enforced a downtown curfew Tuesday night, making arrests moments after it took effect, while deploying officers on horseback and using crowd control projectiles to break up a group of hundreds demonstrating against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Members of the National Guard stood watch behind plastic shields, but did not appear to participate in the arrests.
Hours later, many of the protesters had dispersed, although sporadic confrontations continued that were much smaller than in previous nights. Officials said the curfew was necessary to stop vandalism and theft by agitators looking to cause trouble.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier accused Trump of drawing a “military dragnet” across the nation’s second-largest city with his escalating use of the National Guard. He also deployed Marines, though none were seen on the streets Tuesday.
Newsom asked a court to put an emergency stop to the military helping federal immigration agents, with some guardsmen now standing in protection around agents as they carried out arrests. He said it would only heighten tensions and promote civil unrest. The judge set a hearing for Thursday, giving the administration several days to continue those activities.
The change moves troops closer to engaging in law enforcement actions like deportations as Trump has promised as part of his administration’s immigration crackdown. The Guard has the authority to temporarily detain people who attack officers but any arrests ultimately would be made by law enforcement.
Trump has activated more than 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines over the objections of city and state leaders. They were originally deployed to protect federal buildings.

    STORYLINE:
Los Angeles leaders imposed a downtown curfew Tuesday on the fifth day of protests against President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown as his use of the National Guard escalated and the governor accused him of drawing a “military dragnet” across the nation's second-largest city.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom asked a court to put an emergency stop to the military helping federal immigration agents, with some guardsmen now standing in protection around agents as they carried out arrests. He said it would only heighten tensions and promote civil unrest. The judge chose not to rule immediately, giving the administration several days to continue those activities before a hearing Thursday.
The change moves troops closer to engaging in law enforcement actions like deportations as Trump has promised as part of his administration’s immigration crackdown. The Guard has the authority to temporarily detain people who attack officers but any arrests ultimately would be made by law enforcement.
Trump has activated more than 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines over the objections of city and state leaders, though the Marines have not yet been spotted in Los Angeles and Guard troops have had limited engagement with protesters. They were originally deployed to protect federal buildings.
As the curfew went into effect, a police helicopter flew over downtown federal buildings that have been the center of protests and ordered people to leave the area. Riot police on horses and foot surrounded a group of a few hundred that had gathered in the area, shouting: “Move!” Most of the protesters scattered, with some regrouping and refusing orders to disperse.
Officials said the curfew was necessary to stop vandalism and theft by agitators looking to cause trouble.
Officers could be seen holding demonstrators in custody and bringing some of them to an LAPD bus in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

    STORYLINE:
A humanitarian convoy arrived in Libya Tuesday after driving from Algeria and crossing to Tunisia as part of a journey aimed at reaching the Gaza Strip to break Israel’s blockade.
The convoy is made up of at least 1,500 people, including activists and supporters from Algeria and Tunisia, with more expected to join from Libya.
They arrived in Zawiya city in Libya and plan to reach Gaza via Egypt’s Rafah Crossing, traveling by cars and buses.
The group is currently driving through the Libyan cities of Tripoli, Misrata, Sirte, and Benghazi onto Saloum Crossing bordering Egypt, where they are expected to soon reach Cairo before heading to Rafah.
Jamila Sharitah, an Algerian participant, said that authorities in Tunisia and Libya have been cooperative with the convoy, helping facilitate their smooth journey.
Meanwhile, Zayed al-Hamami, another participant, said the convoy aims to push for reopening crossings and allowing aid into the Gaza Strip.
“There are land, sea and air convoys that will arrive in Gaza despite the restrictions,” said Tunisian convoy organizer Terkiya Shayibi, adding that violent responses against the convoy will not frighten them.
