STORYLINE:
Tens of thousands of young pilgrims from all over the world gathered in Rome for the Jubilee of Youth that the Catholic Church is celebrating over the weekend.
Ahead of Saturday and Sunday’s prayers, when they will assist to Pope Leo XIV celebrating the mass in a field in the outskirts of Rome, many came to the Circus Maximus to confess.
About 200 tents, used as makeshift confessionals, were set up in the archaeological area in the center of Italy’s capital.
Hundreds of priests are offering confession in ten different languages, the Vatican said.
19-year-old Celia Carbonell from Spain, said the event is a strong reminder of young people's place in the Catholic Church.
"Sometimes in my city when you go to church, people in there are very old, and here you can see everybody is very young," she said, adding "you can see that you are not the only one who believes in God.”
