“At around 2:15(am), after midnight, we were sleeping peacefully. I heard sounds around the house, so I rushed out of the house. I came down here, there was no one around. I went back and found my first car burning. I grabbed water and started spraying water on the car.”

“After that, the army came and fired at us while some of the youths were trying to help us, but they fired tear gas and sound grenades at us and after that, the young man, Khamis, was martyred.”

“He (Khamis) heard there were settlers in the neighborhood. He came and there was a car on fire, and he helped us extinguish the fire. We almost managed to extinguish the fire and then he left us. At that time the army (Israeli army) next to the roundabout started firing tear gas. One of the young men called me and said 'your brother been sent to the emergency room'. I told him 'I am coming'. While I was changing my clothes another one called me saying 'your brother in critical condition'."

STORYLINE:
The day after their village in the West Bank was attacked, Palestinians examined the wreckage and mourned the loss of a man they said died in the incident.
Witnesses in Silwad, a village northeast of Ramallah, said Thursday that Israeli troops fired live bullets and tear gas at unarmed residents after settlers set fire to homes and cars.
Rafat Hamed, whose home and cars were set on fire, said he woke up in the middle of the night to noises, before finding his car had been set alight.
