“We walk for three or more hours every day. I talk to him and call him by different nicknames that I have for him. I can always anticipate when he is going to rush or scrape at the ground and everything. When somebody else, a neighbor or anyone he is not familiar with approaches him, his whole demeanor changes, he starts snorting, but he never acts like that with me. He knows that I take care of him, tend to him in the barn, he understands everything. He is just like a human, except that he cannot talk.”

    12. A crowd of spectators gathered to watch bullfights
    13. Group of men surrounding a victorious bull, a man lighting a flare to celebrate
    STORYLINE:
Like many girls her age, 15-year-old Mirnesa Junuzovic splits her days into free time and time for school and chores. How she spends the former, however, makes her quite unusual.
Each day, Junuzovic walks with her bull, Cobra, and trains the animal for traditional bullfights that have been organized in Bosnia for over 200 years.
“We walk for three or more hours every day, I talk to him and call him by different nicknames that I have for him,” Junuzovic said.
Junuzovic said she and Cobra share a special bond and insists that while they train and walk through the fields and forest surrounding her house, the bull sometimes uses its horns to move branches and shrubs out of her way,
“When somebody else, a neighbor or anyone he is not familiar with approaches him, his whole demeanor changes,” Junuzovic said.
Fighting bulls of Bosnia have traditionally been trained by men, but women started joining the fray several years ago. Still, women in this field are rare and Junuzovic, who started training bulls at the age of 12, remains the youngest of the trainers.
Bulls fight in different weight classes and Cobra, who weighs 620 kilograms, belongs among the “lightweights.”
In Bijelo Polje, Bosnia, Cobra fought and won for the ninth time.
The other bull “was unprepared” and it quit without even trying to fight, Junuzovic said.
“Still, we won and every victory counts,” she said, a smile lighting up her face.
Bovine fights in Bosnia are a relatively mellow and bloodless affair resembling a natural clash for dominance between male bulls in the wild.
Almost every weekend during the summer months, rodeo-like corrals are set up in forest clearings or meadows around the country. Thousands of people gather around to watch pairs of animals inside push each other and clash horns until one of them admits defeat by turning their tail and fleeing.

    STORYLINE:
A Paris court on Tuesday found actor Gérard Depardieu guilty of having sexually assaulted two women on a 2021 film set, giving him an 18-month suspended prison sentence.
The actor, 76, has been convicted of having groped a 54-year-old set dresser and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”).
The case was widely seen as a key post-#MeToo test of how French society and its film industry address allegations of sexual misconduct involving prominent figures.
Depardieu, who has denied the accusations, didn't attend Tuesday's hearing.
Depardieu’s long and storied career — he told the court that he’s made more than 250 films — has turned him into a French movie giant. He was Oscar-nominated in 1991 for his performance as the swordsman and poet Cyrano de Bergerac.

During the four-day trial in March, Depardieu rejected the accusations, saying he’s “not like that.”
He acknowledged that he had used vulgar and sexualized language on the film set and that he grabbed the set dresser's hips during an argument, but denied that his behavior was sexual.
The set dresser described the alleged assault, saying the actor pincered her between his legs as she squeezed past him in a narrow corridor.
She said he grabbed her hips then started “palpating” her behind and “in front, around.” She ran her hands near her buttocks, hips and pubic area to show what she allegedly experienced. She said he then grabbed her chest.
The woman also testified that Depardieu used an obscene expression to ask her to touch his penis and suggested he wanted to rape her. She told the court that the actor’s calm and cooperative attitude during the trial bore no resemblance to his behavior at work.
The other plaintiff, an assistant, said that Depardieu groped her buttocks and her breasts during three separate incidents on the film set.
The Associated Press doesn’t identify by name people who say they were sexually assaulted unless they consent to be named. Neither women has done so in this case.
Paris’ public prosecutor had requested that Depardieu be found guilty and given an 18-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 20,000 euros ($22,200). The prosecutor denounced the actor's “total denial and failure to question himself.
Some figures in the French cinema world have expressed their support for Depardieu. Actors Vincent Perez and Fanny Ardant were among those who took seats on his side of the courtroom.
Depardieu has been accused publicly or in formal complaints of misconduct by more than 20 women, but so far only the sexual assault case has proceeded to court. Some other cases were dropped because of a lack of evidence or the statute of limitations.
The actor may have to face other legal proceedings soon.
In 2018, actor Charlotte Arnould accused him of raping her at his home. That case is still active, and in August 2024 prosecutors requested that it go to trial.

    STORYLINE:
China is moving to strengthen its alliances with other countries as a counterweight to President Donald Trump’s trade war, presenting a united front with Latin American leaders at an event on Tuesday in Beijing.
China's leaders have positioned the world's second-largest economy as a reliable trade and development partner, in contrast to the uncertainty and instability from Trump’s tariff hikes and other policies.
On Monday, Beijing and Washington announced a breakthrough on tariffs after weekend talks in Geneva, Switzerland, where they agreed to cut sky-high tariffs on both sides for 90 days to allow for negotiations.
“There are no winners in tariff wars or trade wars,” Xi said, reiterating a phrase China has used repeatedly when referring to Trump's policies.

    STORYLINE:
Asian shares advanced Tuesday after China and the United States announced a 90-day truce in their trade war, but the gains were tempered by uncertainties over the longer term, as analysts warned President Donald Trump’s policies could still quickly change.
The United States said that it will cut tariffs on Chinese goods to 30% from as high as 145%.
China, meanwhile, said its tariffs on U.S. goods will fall to 10% from 125%.
The 90-day pause gives time for more talks following the weekend’s negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, which the U.S. side said yielded “substantial progress.”
Market analyst Louis Wong in Hong Kong said investors are aware that the trade deal is not a done deal and should be prepared for "unexpected news."
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, which gained 3% a day earlier after Chinese and U.S. officials announced the agreement to pause tariffs and reduce them, fell 0.7% to 23,374.06 on heavy selling of technology shares.
    Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 jumped 1.8% to 38,326.37.
Automakers were among the big gainers, with Toyota Motor Corp. up 3.7% and Suzuki Motor Corp. 4.6% higher.
The Kospi in South Korea gained 0.2% to 2,612.30.
The Shanghai Composite index edged 0.2% higher to 3,374.93. Taiwan’s Taiex jumped 1.9%.
    Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.6% to 8,281.40.

    STORYLINE:
Shining lights pierced the darkness in the Bulgarian capital as Sofia hosted its annual Lunar Festival of Lights.
Thousands of residents and tourists came out to see buildings lit up in a sea of color, including Bulgaria's National Palace of Culture which was given an illuminated makeover.
It was the largest facade in the festival and was covered with vibrant images through 3D projection mapping.
"Our goal is to put Bulgaria at the forefront of international light festivals, to inspire more people across the country to engage in this form of art, and to attract international artists whose works will help people around the world rediscover Sofia and Bulgaria, fostering cultural exchange in the process," said Marin Petkov, the festival organizer.
This year, the event was expected to attract more than half a million residents and visitors.
Fourteen locations in downtown Sofia were lit up by artworks created by studios from all over the world, including China, Germany, Spain, Indonesia, Italy and Hungary.
The main topics for this year's festival were related to human values, technological development, the future of the planet and freedom of self-expression.
"We simply wanted to enjoy a pleasant walk with friends, without a specific destination, and take in the artworks as a way to appreciate all the hard work behind this modern form of art," said visitor Madelen Dimitrova.
The festival took place over four evenings from 8-11 May.

"I think it's more about having a radar on what they want and what they love, and just remaining a big kid at all times, like I am a big kids, so I'm able to channel that energy of a young adult, of an adult my age, and then kids in general, because like I say, I love to educate and elevate these things that I went through that I try to prepare them for, or try to keep them away from, or give them different advantages that I didn't have."

    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Snoop Dogg, recording artist:
"The more education you have, the more resources you'll be able to, you know, use in this industry. Like, find out more, research, study, try to get as much knowledge, and then get some experience. Go out there and make a few mistakes, try things on your own, create your own businesses. And you know failures makes mistakes, and mistakes turn into, you know, success. That's what it all becomes. Everybody that's successful has had failure, they've made mistakes, but they became successful. Take that."
    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Walton Goggins, actor:
"You know, I mean, it's just an extraordinary experience. You don't do anything expecting anyone to see anything that you do. That's not why I do it, certainly. And to have had the response online the way that it has happened is pretty remarkable."

    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Amelia Dimoldenberg, actor/comedian:
"One of my most surprising moments was when I interviewed one of my heroes, the journalist Louis Theroux, and I asked him a question based on a documentary I watched years ago of his. I asked if he remembered any of the rap that he did in this gangster rap documentary he made and then that kind of created a viral TikTok sound, the jiggle jiggle sound on TikTok that went completely viral, had a whole dance to it and I never would have imagined something like that. That really surprised me."
    11. SOUNDBITE (English) Quest Love, recording artist:
"You know, I think what makes Quest Love Supreme is that we're five nerds that really ask the, like we delve deep on creativity, which oftentimes artists aren't asked, like, what was the inspiration behind this? Or even, what do you do as a creative? You know? First thing I ask people is, you know, like what was your introduction to music? What was your first musical memory? Or what's the first creative thing that you ever did as a child? Artists are rarely asked about their craft. It's always about their lifestyle or what they're doing in their life, but I think that's why people embrace us.

    STORYLINE:
An Israeli strike hit the surgery department of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis early on Tuesday.
Officials at the hospital said three people were killed and 10 injured.
The Israeli military said it had precisely struck Hamas militants operating from within a command and control center at the hospital.
It comes as Hamas on Monday released an Israeli-American soldier who had been held hostage in Gaza for more than 19 months, offering a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration that could lay the groundwork for a new ceasefire with Israel.
Israel has promised to intensify its offensive, including by seizing Gaza and displacing much of the territory's population again.
Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 and kidnapped around 250 people in the October 7, 2023, attack which triggered the war.
Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed over 52,800 Palestinians, many of them women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not say how many of the dead were combatants or civilians.
Israel's offensive has obliterated vast swaths of Gaza's urban landscape and displaced 90% of the population, often multiple times.
Israel says 58 hostages remain in captivity, with about 23 of them said to be alive.
Many of the 250 hostages taken by Hamas-led militants in the 2023 attack were freed in ceasefire deals.
