STORYLINE:

What looks like a grounded plane in the West Bank town of Qaffin won't be taking to the skies at all because it is actually an airplane-themed guesthouse.

A young Palestinian entrepreneur launched the guesthouse, Airplane Chalet, inside a concrete structure designed and built to resemble a plane.

It is located within sight of the separation wall dividing the West Bank from Israeli territory.

"We don’t have airplanes or airports in Palestine," said Minwer Harsha, who wanted to build something that stands out. "I have a special project. When something is rare to come across, it usually becomes a successful project."

Harsha wanted to spread some joy with his project, saying children often have a great time during their stay.

"When families are staying here, the children ask to stay another day. Sometimes it's already booked, and we can't accommodate them," the 27-year-old entrepreneur said.

Fuertes lluvias causaron inundaciones y deslizamientos de tierra que arrastraron coches, forzaron evacuaciones y provocaron cortes de energía en los alrededores de la capital china. Al menos 38 personas habían muerto para el martes, mientras continuaban los trabajos de rescate y ayuda.

El riesgo de inundación para partes de Beijing, la provincia de Hebei y la ciudad vecina de Tianjin se mantuvo alto hasta la noche del martes.

A gunman who killed four people at a Manhattan office building before killing himself claimed in a note to have a brain disease linked to contact sports and was trying to target the National Football League's headquarters but took the wrong elevator, officials said Tuesday.

Investigators believe Shane Tamura, of Las Vegas, was trying to get up to the NFL offices after shooting several people in the lobby on Monday but entered the wrong elevator bank, Mayor Eric Adams said in interviews.

Four people were killed, including an off-duty New York City police officer, Didarul Islam.

Outside of Islam's home Tuesday, neighbors and relatives reacted to his death.

STORYLINE:

Four powerful Russian glide bombs hit a prison in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region early on Tuesday, authorities said.

The bombs killed at least 16 inmates and wounded more than 90 others at Bilenkivska Correctional Facility, according to Ukraine’s Justice Ministry.

Anatoly Gayevoy, an inmate at the prison said that he had been covered with debris and pressed by concrete blocks.

"I started crawling out by myself, following the light", he said after being asked how he got out from under the debris.

"Flames were burning outside and light was getting through the windows", he added.

Another inmate, Mikita Vlasin, said that those inside had been anticipating a third explosion after the second.

"Some guys wanted to stay alive so much that they literally hid under the dead. Screams," he recalled.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that overnight Russian strikes across the country hit 73 cities, towns and villages.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday he is giving Russian President Vladimir Putin 10 to 12 days to stop the killing in Ukraine after three years of war, moving up a 50-day deadline he had given the Russian leader two weeks ago.

The move meant Trump wants peace efforts to make progress by Aug. 7-9

"The air drops, like the ones that took place today, are happening as Israel faces increasing pressure over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza after images of emaciated children sparked global outrage and incidents of deadly violence near aid collection points. Over the weekend Israel announced that the military would pause operations in various spots across Gaza for 10 hours a day, designate secure routes for aid delivery, and allow international airdrops. Israel says U.N. agencies collected 120 trucks for distribution on Sunday and that another 180 trucks had been allowed into Gaza. But the U.N. food agency and other aid organizations say the new measures are not enough to counter worsening starvation. The World Food Program says the 20 tons of aid dropped earlier today would fill less than one aid truck. It also says that all 55 of its aid trucks that entered on Sunday were unloaded by crowds before reaching their destination. It says nearly half a million people in Gaza are enduring famine-like conditions. Aid officials say conditions won't improve until there are regular shipments of large quantities of supplies. And Israel says it will continue military operations alongside the new humanitarian measures."

A new Gallup poll shows support for Israel’s military action in Gaza has dropped among U.S. adults, with only about one-third approving.

 

This marks a decline from the beginning of the war with Hamas, when about half of Americans approved of Israel's action.

 

Senate Democrats are imploring President Donald Trump’s administration to step up its role in addressing suffering and starvation in Gaza, with more than 40 senators signing onto a letter Tuesday urging the resumption of ceasefire talks and sharply criticizing an Israeli-backed American organization that had been created to distribute food aid.

 

Sen. Jacky Rosen, (D) Nevada, says the suffering in Gaza needs to be addressed.

“We need to get that humanitarian aid in, relieve the suffering, and we have to find that path forward for the day after. We can and we must do all of it,” Rosen said.

 

Meanwhile, Sen. Rick Scott, (R) Florida says that you don’t want people at war, you don’t want people starving.

A new Gallup poll shows support for Israel’s military action in Gaza has dropped among U.S. adults, with only about one-third approving.

 

This marks a decline from the beginning of the war with Hamas, when about half of Americans approved of Israel's action.

 

Senate Democrats are imploring President Donald Trump’s administration to step up its role in addressing suffering and starvation in Gaza, with more than 40 senators signing onto a letter Tuesday urging the resumption of ceasefire talks and sharply criticizing an Israeli-backed American organization that had been created to distribute food aid.

 

Sen. Jacky Rosen, (D) Nevada, says the suffering in Gaza needs to be addressed.
