Most US adults, about 60%, say they've used AI to search for information. About 4 in 10 are using it for tasks like work and drafting emails. One of the big takeaways from the poll though is that young people are the ones who are leaning into AI. Most US adults under 30 say they've used AI for brainstorming and coming up with ideas, something that's much less common among older adults. We talked to Courtney, a 34-year-old woman in Des Moines, Iowa, who uses ChatGPT to help her meal plan. Courtney is using it to calculate the nutritional value of food and reduce food waste in her life."

Most U.S. adults say they use artificial intelligence to search for information, but fewer are using it for work, drafting email or shopping.

Younger adults are most likely to be leaning into AI, with many using it for brainstorming and work tasks.

The new findings from an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll show that 60% of Americans overall — and 74% of those under 30 — use AI to find information at least some of the time.

The poll highlights the ubiquity of AI in some areas — as well as its limits in others. STORYLINE:

Over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in the 21-month Israel-Hamas war, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Tuesday.

More than 100 people have been killed in the last 24hs according to hospitals in Gaza, most of them while seeking aid, health officials said.

Mourners gathered around the bodies lying outside the morgue at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis.

"He went to bring food for his children, he went but never returned", said a woman crying in front of a dead body.

The hospital located in the Southern Gaza Strip said it received more than 40 bodies on Tuesday.

At least 13 were killed in airstrikes overnight in Khan Younis, with others killed while seeking aid.

Israel's offensive, following Hamas' October 7 attack in 2023, has devastated Gaza and displaced 90% of its population.

Experts warn Gaza is on the brink of famine due to Israeli restrictions and security breakdowns.

The ministry said the latest death toll has risen to 60,034, with 145,870 people wounded since the start of the war.

The United Nations considers the ministry's casualty figures reliable, though Israel disputes them.

Despite international pressure, Israel's measures to increase aid have shown little impact.

STORYLINE:

Scores of Palestinians in the town of Zawaida risked their lives on Tuesday, rowing, running and swimming into the sea to retrieve whatever they could from aid airdrops which had landed in the water.

While some were able to salvage food from the sea, including flour, sugar, tea, cooking oil, rice, and biscuits, much of the aid was drenched.

Kamel Qoraan, a Zawaida resident, swam back to shore with only a soaked bag of tea powder, and said that the airdrop was "humiliation, not aid".

Still, some seemed relieved to get any food at all, including one boy who smiled as he clutched a small sack of flour, while another man managed to grab half a can of beans.

Meanwhile, Momen Abu Etayya, a resident of Zawaida, said his son urged him to chase the airdrops, even though they were falling far from their location.

“My boy started yelling ‘catch the plane Dad. Let’s bring aid', he said. "I came to try and fetch the aid in the sea, I almost drowned.” he added.

The airdrops come as part of a series of measures introduced by Israel over the weekend to increase the flow of aid, as the state faces mounting international pressure to ease an increasingly dire humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Despite the airdrops in recent days, U.N. officials say there has been little change on the ground so far, and much more is needed.

Israel says U.N. agencies collected 120 trucks for distribution on Sunday and that another 180 trucks had been allowed into Gaza. But the U.N. food agency and other aid organizations say the new measures are not enough to counter worsening starvation. The World Food Program says the 20 tons of aid dropped earlier today would fill less than one aid truck. It also says that all 55 of its aid trucks that entered on Sunday were unloaded by crowds before reaching their destination. We know that Tamura himself played football in high school. Investigators have also said that Tamura had a documented history of mental health problems. So investigators are still trying to piece together the motive. And what prompted, the shooting. We know that Tamura drove cross-country from Nevada, where he was living. He wound up killing four people, including a police officer, before turning the weapon on himself."

STORYLINE:

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says that a gunman who killed four people at a Manhattan office building was trying to target the headquarters of the National Football League but took the wrong elevator.

Adams said in interviews Tuesday that investigators believe Shane Tamura, of Las Vegas, was trying to get to the NFL offices after shooting several people Monday in the building’s lobby but accidentally entered the wrong elevator banks.

Police say Tamura had a rambling note found on his body that suggested he had a grievance against the NFL over a claim that he suffered from a brain disease linked to contact sports. He never played in the NFL.

Among those killed was an off-duty police officer.

STORYLINE:

Portugal is facing the second heatwave of the summer, with some regions expected to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) on Tuesday.

In Lisbon, temperatures on Tuesday were expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) leading many people to escape to the closest beaches.

In Carcavelos, several beachgoers enjoyed the warm weather. People sunbathed, swam and surfed.

But some beachgoers also expressed concern at the increasingly common high temperatures.

On Tuesday several wildfires in Portugal were deemed of concern with over 3,000 firefighters on the ground, 900 fire engines and 26 aerial resources.

In the northern part of the country, close to the border with Spain, a fire that started on Saturday night continued to burn, threatening villages and the natural protected area of Geres.

The EU monitoring agency has found that, in Europe and globally, 2024 was the hottest year on record and the continent experienced its second-highest number of ‘heat stress’ days.
