Donald Trump has called Kilmar Abrego Garcia a “bad guy” and backed the decision to return him to the US to face criminal charges.

Abrego Garcia was wrongly deported to El Salvador nearly three months ago under the Trump administration. He was returned to the US on Friday (6 June) and charged with trafficking migrants into the country.

The charges relate to a 2022 traffic stop, during which the Tennessee Highway Patrol suspected him of human trafficking.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump said: “By bringing him back, you show how bad he is.”

“He’s a bad guy,” he added.

Emergency crews battled flames and searched for survivors after a massive Russian drone and missile strike hit the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Saturday (7 June), killing at least three people.

Kharkiv was targeted by nearly 50 drones, two missiles, and four guided bombs, according to the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov.

Footage shows rescue workers continuing efforts to locate those trapped under the rubble.

Nearly two dozen people were injured.

This was reportedly the second-largest overnight aerial attack on Ukraine since the war began, after the 31 May attack involving 479 drones and missiles.

Eager customers lined up outside electronics stores hours in advance in Tokyo on Thursday to collect their pre-ordered Nintendo Switch 2 video game consoles.

The much anticipated Switch2 is an upgrade to its eight-year-old predecessor with new social features meant to draw players into online gaming.

The new consoles were sold through a competitive lottery system that Nintendo said got about 2.2 million applications in Japan alone.

Richard Tice has defended a Reform UK MP’s call for a burqa ban, after party chairman Zia Yusuf branded the argument “dumb” and quit.

On Wednesday (4 June), newly elected MP Sarah Pochin called on Sir Keir Starmer in the Commons to ban burqas in “the interest of public safety”.

Mr Yusuf said announced his resignation on Thursday (5 June), stating that he “no longer believes working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time”.

A boat carrying 89 passengers capsizes off the coast of Bali on Wednesday (4 June), with terrified tourists screaming as they try to scramble to safety.

The 125-seater boat was struck by a large wave shortly after departing from Nusa Lembongan Island, with water quickly filling up the ship which began to sink into the sea.

Video footage shows panicked holidaymakers breaking one of the ship’s windows to exit the vessel, with some jumping in the water whilst others escaped to nearby boats.

All passengers were evacuated to safety by 6.30 pm. local time and no deaths or serious injuries were reported.
