Buses carrying 307 Ukrainian prisoners of war arrived at an undisclosed location in Ukraine on Saturday, 24 May, where emotional reunions unfolded between the returning soldiers and their families.

The exchange with Russia, confirmed by both Kyiv and Moscow, is part of a broader agreement aimed at repatriating 1,000 individuals from both sides.

“Among those who returned today are soldiers from our army, the State Border Service, and the National Guard of Ukraine,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.

The swap follows a similar exchange on Friday involving 390 personnel and civilians. Returnees will receive medical and psychological support.

Carrie Johnson has shared a heartwarming video on Instagram to announce the birth of her fourth child, Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson, with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The video shows the newborn wrapped in a soft yellow blanket, cradled by her delighted parents. Carrie Johnson revealed that Poppy was born on Wednesday, 21 May, expressing her joy with the caption: "We are all totally smitten."

She also extended her gratitude to the maternity team at University College London Hospitals for their care and support.

Poppy joins her siblings Wilf, five, Romy, three, and Frank, who is 22 months old.

Police have confirmed that a woman who died alongside three children in a house fire in Brent, north-west London, on Saturday (24 May) was the children’s mother.

The Metropolitan Police were called to assist the London Fire Brigade after the blaze broke out in Tillett Close, Stonebridge, in the early hours of the morning.

A 43-year-old woman, a 15-year-old girl, and two boys aged eight and four died at the scene.

“ I can confirm a woman and three of her children died at the scene,” Superintendent Steve Allen said.

“The wider family has been informed and officers will continue to support them,” he added.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a woman, a 15-year-old girl and two boys aged eight and four were killed in a house fire.

The Metropolitan Police were called to assist the London Fire Brigade (LFB) after a blaze broke out at a home in Brent, north west London, in the early hours of the morning.

Eight fire engines and 70 firefighters were deployed to battle the flames, which left two three-floor terraced houses severely damaged.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to pull a woman and a child from the second floor, but they were sadly declared deceased at the scene. Two more children were discovered inside the property.

Police later confirmed four people - a 43-year-old woman, and the three children - died in the fire in Tillett Close, Stonebridge. Their next-of-kin have been informed.

The city of Cannes has suffered a total loss of power today (Saturday, May 24) ahead of the film festival’s awards ceremony this evening.

Power across the whole city went out shortly after 10.00am CEST, including in screening rooms, with several festival attendees reporting screenings shut off mid-way through.

Watch as emergency workers search a building damaged by drone debris after Moscow launched its largest missile and drone attack to date on Kyiv.

At least 15 people were injured when Russia struck Ukraine’s capital early on Saturday morning (24 May) with drones and missiles, sparking fires and scattering debris across several districts, according to the city’s mayor.

Explosions were heard throughout Kyiv, prompting many residents to seek shelter in underground stations.

The overnight strikes follow President Volodymyr Zelensky’s accusation that Vladimir Putin is making a “mockery of the entire world” by delaying a response to ceasefire calls after the first phase of a major prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia.

A motorcyclist was fined after police spotted her riding with a dog secured to her chest on May 17 in Alexandra Headland.

The 35-year-old Maroochydore woman received a $376 infringement notice for failing to transport the animal safely.

Officers said the harness, bought online, could pose risks if the dog reacted unpredictably. Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho of Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol reminded motorists to maintain full control and visibility while driving.

“We know how attached some people are to their pets, but its best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads.,” he said.
