Donald Trump attacked the previous Biden administration’s approach to the Middle East while lauding his own relationships with the Gulf nations.

“Everybody at this table knows where my loyalties lie. Always have they'll never waver, never; and we'll stand with our friends and partners, and we'll confront the aggression that threatens us all,” he said.

Trump also reiterated that he wants to do a deal with Iran.

“I want to do something, if it's possible. But for that to happen, it must stop sponsoring terror, halt its bloody proxy wars, and permanently and verifiably cease its pursuit of nuclear weapons. They cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

President Donald Trump has said he is ordering the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria to start the process of normalising relations between Washington and Damascus.

Speaking in Riyadh, where he addressed a Saudi-American investment forum on the first day of his four-day, three-country swing through the Middle East, Trump said the new Syrian government “will hopefully succeed in stabilising the country and keeping peace” after the country’s people had seen “their share of travesty and war” over “many years.”

Disability rights protesters in wheelchairs clashed with Republican lawmakers Tuesday as they sought to discuss and debate their sprawling legislation on Medicaid, which led to police dragging advocates out.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which governs Medicaid, began its “mark up” for its part of the legislation that Republicans have taken to calling “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”

At one point, one advocate shouted at Republican lawmakers saying: “You will kill me!” As Capitol Police escorted the protester out, she shouted: “Bulls***! Liar!”

King Charles is to host French President Emmanuel Macron on a state visit to the UK from July 8-10, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The French leader and his wife Brigitte Macron will stay at Windsor Castle and will be feted with a state banquet at the historic Berkshire royal residence.

Buckingham Palace said: "The President of the French Republic, His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by Mrs Brigitte Macron, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty The King to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from Tuesday 8th July to Thursday 10th July 2025.

Eight of the ten defendants - who face charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy - deny any involvement in the case. The can has been dubbed the “grandpa robbers” trial due to five of them being pensioners.

Police caught a mobile phone thief in under a minute after he snatched a device in central London.

The Metropolitan Police released footage of the pursuit, which occurred near London Bridge, on social media on Tuesday (13 May).

It shows the thief snatching the phone near Hays Galleria as an unmarked police vehicle drives on the road.

An officer inside the car spots the theft, turning the vehicle around swiftly and jumping out to arrest the man.

The owner got their phone back, police said.
