Sir Keir Starmer is expected to press Donald Trump on the revival of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas as the UK joins efforts to airdrop aid into Gaza.

The prime minister will travel to meet the US president during his visit to Scotland amid mounting global anger over the humanitarian conditions in the war-torn enclave.

It comes after reports that Sir Keir Starmer is facing pressure from his cabinet to recognise a Palestinian state. “If not now, then when?”, one senior cabinet minister told The Guardian.

Jordan and the United Arab Emirates have parachuted aid into the Gaza Strip as the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory deepens.

Israel said on Sunday that it would halt military operations each day for 10 hours in parts of Gaza and allow new aid corridors into the strip.

England’s women’s football team celebrated their Euro 2025 victory well into the early hours, with some players staying out until 4am.

At their Zurich hotel, staff had prepared a festive champions’ welcome. The Lionesses arrived cheering, with players raising glasses of champagne to the cameras. Wearing “Champions 2025” T-shirts and their freshly won gold medals—secured after Chloe Kelly’s decisive penalty—the players embraced the celebrations with joy.

Reggie, the Cavapoo who accompanied the squad throughout their campaign, also joined in, with the team chanting his name.

The Lionesses now return to London for a parade and ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Donald Trump has claimed Europe “had better get its act together” as he arrived at the start of a four-day visit to Scotland.

Trump was greeted by Scottish Secretary Ian Murray as he landed at Glasgow’s Prestick Airport, before quickly launching a broadside at EU migration policies as he spoke to waiting reporters.

“ You better get your act together or you're not gonna have Europe anymore,” he said, adding: “ You’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that's happening to Europe.”

Trump’s comment come against a backdrop of tension over the housing of migrants in regional areas of the UK, with a string of violent protests taking place outside a hotel believed to be housing asylum seekers in Epping, Essex.

Anti-racism protesters have marched through Epping in a show of solidarity with refugees, as tensions mount over a hotel being used to house asylum seekers.

Campaigners from Stand Up To Racism gathered outside Epping train station on Sunday afternoon before marching to The Bell Hotel.

The protesters were chanting “Refugees are welcome here” and “Whose streets? Our streets” as they made their way through the Essex town.

American Airlines passengers flee on an emergency slide after a Boeing plane wheel caught fire.

Passengers slid down emergency chutes at Denver International Airport on Saturday (26 July) after American Airlines Flight 3023 aborted takeoff due to a suspected mechanical issue.

One person was taken to a hospital, while five others were assessed on site, officials said.

The FAA confirmed the crew reported a possible landing gear malfunction during departure, triggering safety protocols.

A father has been arrested after four children were left alone inside a hot car in a parking lot.

The children, aged two to seven, were found inside the car, parked at The Adult Shoppe in Arizona on 24 July.

The temperature inside the car had reached 125 degrees when the children were found by police.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy welcomed the pause but said it was “long overdue” and called for land routes to be opened urgently, warning that air drops alone “cannot alleviate the needs of those desperately suffering in Gaza”.
