Wildfires that have engulfed Turkey for weeks threatened the country’s fourth-largest city early Sunday, causing hundreds of people to flee their homes.

Overnight fires in the forested mountains surrounding Bursa in northwest Turkey spread rapidly, bringing a red glow to the night sky over the city’s eastern suburbs.

Bursa governor’s office said in a statement Sunday that 1,765 people had been safely evacuated from villages to the northeast as more than 1,100 firefighters battled the flames. The highway linking Bursa to the capital, Ankara, was closed as surrounding forests burned.

Hundreds of protesters have gathered in Edinburgh and Aberdeen to voice their opposition to Donald Trump's visit to Scotland.

Demonstrators waved anti-Trump slogans objecting to the US president's five-day trip to the country, while others brought “Free Gaza” signs and Palestinian flags.

The support for the wartorn territory comes after the president said on Friday that France’s recognition of a Palestinian state “doesn’t matter”.

Footage shows the moment Israeli forces intercepted an aid ship heading for Gaza on Saturday evening (26 July).

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition released a statement saying its civilian vessel Handala was intercepted about 40 miles from Gaza.

The Handala was carrying 21 civilians representing 12 countries, including parliamentarians, lawyers, journalists, labor organizers, environmentalists, and other human rights defenders.

Footage shows the moment Israeli forces intercepted an aid ship heading for Gaza on Saturday evening (26 July).

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition released a statement saying its civilian vessel Handala was intercepted about 40 miles from Gaza.

The Handala was carrying 21 civilians representing 12 countries, including parliamentarians, lawyers, journalists, labor organizers, environmentalists, and other human rights defenders.

On its X account, the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that the navy had stopped the vessel, “from illegally entering the maritime zone of the coast of Gaza."

According to the statement, the passengers are safe and the boat is on its way to the shores of Israel.
