Donald Trump has called out Vladimir Putin’s “bulls***” whilst discussing the ongoing Russian war and Ukrainian peace talks.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with his Cabinet on Tuesday (8 July), the US president said: “I'm not happy with Putin. I can tell you that much right now," noting that Russian and Ukrainian soldiers were dying in their thousands.

“We get a lot of bulls*** thrown at us by Putin. ... He's very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,” he added.

The US president also said he was considering “very strongly” whether to give his backing to a bill in the Senate that would impose harsh sanctions on Moscow over the war.

Emmanuel Macron urged Britain and France “to shoulder the burden of European security” together as he appealed for the two nations work more closely on issues including defence and the migrant crisis.

The French president delivered his remarks as the first European leader to receive a state visit to Britain and address both houses of parliament since Brexit was finalised in 2020.

In a passionate address, Mr Macron made clear that the events which saw the UK leave the EU are in the past and he hailed Sir Keir Starmer - whom he referred to as “dear Keir” - for his reset of the relations.

Emmanuel Macron joked the Bayeux Tapestry loan took longer to deliver than Brexit, after it was announced on Tuesday (8 July) that the 1000-year-old wall hanging will go on display in the UK.

The tapestry, one of the world's most famous pieces of medieval art, will go on display from September 2026 to July 2027 in The Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery.

It is the first time that it will be held in the UK since it was first created almost a millennium ago.

Diogo Jota is thought to have been driving when he and his brother Andre Silva died in a car crash last week, Spanish police have said.

The Liverpool footballer and father-of-three was killed alongside his brother, also a footballer, after the £180,000 acid green Lamborghini they were travelling in burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout last Thursday night in Zamora, Spain.

A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil of Zamora said that tests being carried out by its traffic division showed Jota was driving the car at the time.

The spokesperson added that the car was thought to be travelling above the speed limit on the road, which local media reports is 120kmph (74mph).

President Donald Trump criticized a reporter who asked about the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, questioning why there was any buzz around the disgraced financier just one day after the Justice Department revealed there was no “client list.”

When confronted with a question about Epstein during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the president paused, expressing disbelief that “people are still talking about this creep.”

“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years,” Trump began. “Are people still talking about this guy? This creep? That is unbelievable.”

French President Emmanuel Macron arrives in Britain on Tuesday for a state visit mixing royal pageantry with thorny political talks about stopping migrants from crossing the English Channel in small boats.

Macron and Prime Minister Keir Starmer will also try to advance plans for a post-ceasefire security force for Ukraine, despite apparent U.S. indifference to the idea and Russia’s refusal to halt the onslaught on its neighbor.

Macron’s three-day visit, at the invitation of King Charles III, is the first state visit to the U.K. by a European Union head of state since Brexit, and a symbol of the British government's desire to reset relations with the bloc that the U.K. acrimoniously left in 2020.
