Migration is back in the headlines this week, as the UN released a report warning of increasing numbers of deaths on routes across the Mediterranean, on land borders to Europe and within the continent. The news comes as Greece’s migration ministry released statistics of an 80% increase in migrant arrivals, as Europe turns its attention to curbing migration via the so-called Balkan route, and as Human Rights Watch slammed Turkey in a scathing report pointing out how Ankara has deported Syrian refugees back to Syria. Expert Angeliki Dimitriadi, a research fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin who contributes to the institute’s work on migration, joins Thanos Davelis to look into these latest developments and the questions they raise about Europe’s migration policy.
