  • Spiritual Word - (9/11)

1 Corinthians 2:13, "Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual."

Paul clearly states here that he did not mix the wisdom of man with the gospel. He preached by the wisdom of the Holy Ghost, and not the wisdom of man. Discern between what is man-made (philosophy, psychology, psychiatry, self-help, man-centered counseling), and between what is of the Holy Ghost.

Some interpret the phrase "comparing spiritual things with spiritual" as meaning that the Bible interprets itself. However, even with this as a "rule" in Bible interpretation we still get it wrong if we are not being actively taught by the Holy Ghost. The heart of understanding the Bible is an active relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:27.

Father God, I thank you for giving your son. The Lord Jesus is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification. He is everything we need. Lord, guide and direct our study of your word that we may be taught by the Holy Ghost and not by the systems of man. In Jesus name. Amen.

  • Hidden Wisdom - (9/10)

1 Corinthians 2:7, "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:"

The wisdom of God is hidden from the world. They cannot see the wisdom of God in allowing his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. This wisdom is hidden from the world and from unbelievers. But to us who are saved it is the power and wisdom and righteousness of God.

God opposed the proud but he gives grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5.

Father God, I thank you for this hidden wisdom that you have revealed to those who are humble like children. Lord, you have revealed yourself to the simple, plain and humble person. Lord, I give you all the thanks and praise and honor and glory. Thank you for giving grace and mercy to the humble, oh Lord. Amen.

  • Wisdom of the World (9/9)

1 Corinthians 2:6, "Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:"

The wisdom of the world and the wisdom of the rich and powerful in this world will come to nothing. It is all passing away. It is temporary and fleeting. Don't be deceived by the wisdom of the world or the big names in society, government, or business. Stay humble and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

The wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, filled with mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17.

Father God, deliver me from any of this deceiving wisdom that comes from the world. I do not want to be led away by the error of the wicked, oh Lord. Grant me grace and mercy to know the true wisdom that is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • Man's Wisdom - (9/8)

1 Corinthians 2:1-5, "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 4, And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5, That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."

The gospel is not preached according to the wisdom of men but in the power of God. It is a mistake to bring in philosophy or deceitful ideas, the tradition of men, or the rudiments of the world into the preaching of the gospel. We need to decrease and get smaller, more humble and plain, and allow God to be glorified through the clear proclamation of the gospel.

Why would anyone try to preach to people with excellency of speech or wisdom? Why would someone's speech and preaching be with enticing words of man's wisdom? 2 Corinthians 11:14-15.

Father God, the gospel message is plain for all to hear and to understand. The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, he was buried in a tomb, and on the third day he rose from the dead. His resurrection is proof that he is the Son of God. We have been redeemed through his blood and received the forgiveness of sins. Amen.

  • Christ Is Our Wisdom (9/7)

1 Corinthians 1:30, "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption."

God has placed us into his son Jesus. We do not need to seek after wisdom and knowledge out in the world through any philosophy or man-made system of religion. We have everything we need for wisdom and knowledge already in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is all we need. He is the fulness of the Godhead bodily, and we are complete in Him. Colossians 2:9-10.

Lord, I want more of you and less of men. Thank you, Father God, for placing me into your son Jesus Christ. He is my wisdom, and my righteousness, and my sanctification, and my redemption. I call upon the name of the Lord Jesus, who is worthy to be praised. Amen.

  • Depth of the Riches (9/6)

Romans 11:33, "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"

God's wisdom and knowledge are way past anything we can figure out. His thoughts are far above ours. There is, however, a way to know the Lord. We can know by faith in what he has chosen to reveal to us about himself. God has revealed himself to us through his son Jesus Christ.

The Lord said that his thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways his ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so his ways are higher than ours, and his thoughts over our thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9.

Lord, I want to know you more and more every day. I pray that I may be filled with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. I pray that I may walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. In Jesus name. Amen.

  • Spiritual Authority (9/5)

Acts 6:10, "And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake."

The Lord fulfilled his promise in giving the disciples the power of the Spirit and the wisdom to declare the gospel. Their enemies could not stop them from preaching, nor could they defend themselves against the plain preaching of God's word.

Jesus told his disciples ahead of time that they would be persecuted by the world. This persecution came from religious people and also from the world government. He told them all of this so that they would not be stumbled with the persecution came. John 16:1-3.

Heavenly Father, thank you for letting us know ahead of time that being a Christian in this fallen world will bring persecution from unbelievers and religious people. Grant your people the grace they need to endure afflictions, and to overcome in the power of the Holy Spirit. Help us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus. Lord, I know you are with us in the furnace of affliction. You will never leave us or forsake us. In Jesus name. Amen.

  • Wisdom of the Righteous (9/4)

Luke 21:15, "For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist."

The Lord promises his disciples that he will enable them to speak with spiritual authority and wisdom that their enemies will not be able to stop. You can see this clearly in the lives of the early disciples after the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. They preached the gospel boldly and with wisdom that the religious leaders could not contradict.

Peter and the other apostles responded to their enemies with plain words of authority and wisdom. Acts 5:29; Acts 6:10.

Heavenly Father, I pray that you would fill me with the Holy Spirit and wisdom, that in every situation I may have a word to build others up, to encourage, and to comfort others. When I am confronted with the enemies of the gospel I trust in you to give me the wisdom and words I need in that moment to glorify the name of Jesus Christ. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.

  • Good Fruit (9/3)

Luke 7:35, "But wisdom is justified of all her children."

True wisdom from heaven will result in specific fruit in the life of the believer. This is not the wisdom of the world, but is a wisdom that is given as a gift to those who trust in Jesus. This is the wisdom that Jesus and John the Baptist had, and you can see the fruit of their lives and their ministry. Bad fruit equals bad trees (bad wisdom). Good fruit equals good trees (good wisdom).

Jesus said that we can discern people by their fruit. Matthew 7:16-18.

Father God, plant me deeply in the Lord Jesus Christ so that my heart, attitudes, words, and actions will display the wisdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. Deliver me from worldly wisdom, or the wisdom of the flesh. I pray heavenly Father that you would fill me with the true wisdom from heaven that I may bear good fruit and bless everyone that I come into contact with. In Jesus name. Amen.

  • Increasing in Wisdom (9/2)

Luke 2:40,52, "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. 52, And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

The Lord Jesus continued to grow and increase in wisdom. God's will for us is that we be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, and that we continue to increase in the knowledge of God each day. Growth is the evidence of life. Stagnation is evidence of death.

Scripture commands us to increase in spiritual wisdom and understanding and to continue to add to our faith every day. Colossians 1:10; 2 Peter 1:5-11.

Heavenly Father, I want to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ every day. I cannot stand still, I must go forward. Help me to know you more every day, Lord. Grant me the grace and power of the Spirit to remove any obstacles that would come between us, so that I may have a constant supply of the life of the Spirit. Lord Jesus, I want to know you more every day. Amen.
