Another life-affirming, hugely positive slice of film fun again this week, with Dexter Fletcher's 'Eddie The Eagle', which documents the true-life rags to (almost) riches story of Eddie Edwards who, through sheer force of will, managed to capture the hearts of the whole world in the 88 winter olympics.

Here's another one of those movies that I love, but suspect that many people have decided they don't like without actually watching! I find it an endlessly entertaining, and, importantly, really optimistic story with some jaw-dropping visuals and awesome performances; give it a go- i reckon you'll love it too!

A really under-appreciated Sci-Fi gem from 2012 this week, a fantastic adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'Barsoom' series of pulp fantasy classics, which is SO much better than it's reputation would have you believe! Check it out please!

I was as pleasantly surprised as anyone that this movie (and all of it's many spinoffs!) turned out as well as it did, and there was no real competition when it came to choosing my movie of the year for 2010!

A brilliant slice of sci-fi that came out of nowhere (well, actually from South Africa)  to blow us all away, Neill Blomkamp's "District 9" is my movie of the year for 2009. An oddly affecting 'alien invasion' movie like nothing before or since, it was a decent-sized hit at the time, but deserves to have been enormous!
