My guest is Lachelle Hill of Hill Homeschooling. I used her Home-Instruction plan as a guide when I developed my students’ curriculum for this academic year. Mrs. Hill talks about the myths and benefits of homeschooling. I came through with the perspective from a nation-wide standpoint: • 87% of educators from our previous school had been white, female. 79% nation-wide. This does not represent all students, this has not worked. • The average property equity of Black homeowners is only $360,000 - our students need financial education more than anything! • prisons are being built right now and where I reside $200m was just awarded to expand the county jail = school to prison pipeline is real! The future is dependent on our ability to break the cycle and write our own history. Homeschooling is preserving black lives in many ways. We are discussing the growing homeschooling community, free homeschooling resources, encouragement to explore your students’ needs and learning style, stereotypes, and personal experiences. Hey hey! I’m back with a bonus episode featuring my family. My 8 yr old son, Cameron Lee Smith answers my questions about financial education, and entrepreneurship. He talks about equity and accountability, goals and aspirations as a Gamer. Zora is 4 “ ‘bout to be 5” and shares with us her love for learning online with Khan Academy. She’s not the legal age to begin learning full time but we include her anyway. My baby cousin Kayla Hamilton of East New York recites a poem she wrote called Our Lives. She’s a senior in high school, a political & social activist and a video creator. She delivered such an impressive poem, I literally envisioned her at Joe Biden’s Presidential Inauguration talking to the souls of our great nation.

It was once illegal for my/our ancestors to learn how to read and write. They relentlessly strived for the opportunity because they knew how valuable it was to their freedom, our freedom. During a regularly scheduled board meeting in Beacon City, the need for diversity was a shared sentiment of nearly every board member. Talk is cheap though, it’s easier to say things without actually implementing nowadays. Hence, all BLM solidarity statements coming from corporate America

Since moving here, I’ve said things like “Poughkeepsie is the most racist place in all of Dutchess County” and “Poughkeepsie is Against Black Empowerment” and it still rings true. What has happened today is a prime example of further dehumanizing black women in healthcare and faulty diversity and inclusion in yet another industry, aside from the construction industry here in Poughkeepsie.
