It seems that we hear about human trafficking through the
media almost every day. But few people are truly aware of the reality of how this happens and even more so, they are
surprised to find that a family member or friend of a friend are victims. The crime of human trafficking is often
defined by force, fraud, fear or coercion.
A young person may go online and meet someone they really fall for and then sneak out and meet up with them, only to find out that the real person is a pimp or gang member that has been grooming them for a life of forced
commercial sex. Victims of trafficking are groomed, coerced, seduced and then violated to the point that they often
feel as if they have no way out.
We discuss how Million Kids has created programs to educate the most vulnerable potential victims so they will not be come victims of trafficking. We will talk about what the public can do to get involved and support our work including: (1) Education and outreach to the
public (2) Foster child bedding program
