Today, I have a conversation with Kaitlyn Sung, someone that I connected very deeply with and my teammate and friend on Voyage. Kaitlyn is such an inspiration and such a light to the world, and this conversation very much captures her authentic, genuine self. We talk about healing, mindful movement, and gratitude.
Kaitlyn took her first steps in the dance community when she joined TM Juniors in her hometown, Anaheim, CA, where she then remained on the TM Company for 4 years and took on producer roles with Bridge Dance Competition. In 2018 she moved to San Diego to join the cast of Beyond Babel and has since danced with Cirque Du Soleil and Billie Eilish. She is currently a member of Vessel Dance Company, team manager for Voyage Training Team, and an intern for Legacy Entertainment Group.

Sorah Yang is an Choreographer, Creative Director, Teacher, and Entrepreneur who was born and raised in the Bay Area, and received her Bachelors in Business Administration from USC. Her dance career has included: creating and directing Vessel Dance Company, traveling to 27 countries worldwide and over 30 colleges around the US to teach and perform, providing choreography and movement coaching for kpop artists, and giving a TEDx Talk where she discussed her nonlinear path from college to a career in the arts. Through sharing her work online, she has amassed a digital presence which has led to creative partnerships with brands like Adobe and Hyundai.
Sorah operates her own clothing brand for dancers (ShopSorah), and most recently worked as the Associate Choreographer for the Broadway-bound Britney Spears Musical.
In 2020, she developed a self-curated online course called "The Artful Balance of Business and Dance," providing in-depth mentorship, creative development, and career guidance for students around the world. Aside from professional work, over the past year alone she has raised over $17,000 to support nonprofit orgs that provide resources to women of color and other marginalized communities.

On this week's episode of the podcast, I host a solo episode where I talk about the concepts of essentialism, how societal categories have been utilized to force specific definitions onto humanity, what it means to have personal power, and what it means to belong instead of fit in. I also apply this framework to the dance community as well as my own personal life experiences. A little bit of background about me: I am an Asian American woman with a B.S. in psychology and I love to dance. I am a curious person with many questions about life, which is why I decided to start a podcast where I can share and exchange ideas with others.
