Dr. Lindsey Godwin and Miriam Novotny, co-authors of "Ditch the Ditty," dive right into our discussion by first telling us how to become more aware of "ditties," those unwanted and unnecessary asks and tasks that so many of us take on each day, often without hesitation. It's anything you agree to out of politeness, obligation, or fear of letting someone down. They're the "yeses" that don't feel like a choice. Especially women, the authors explain, have been conditioned from the get-go to get it all done while also making it look easy. This societal dynamic further perpetuates the cycle of the ditty-doing-expectation, which all too often expands beyond home and family to our work and social environments as well. Once we become aware of the ditties that land in our laps we become better able to ditch them, freeing up our valuable life-minutes to do more of what we really want to do.Miriam Novotny, MPOD, and Lindsey Godwin, Ph.D., are two of the three global change and strengths-based leadership experts behind Ditch the Ditty: Doing What Matters Instead of Doing It All—a #1 new release in Women’s Studies on Amazon. Along with their co-author, Molly McGuigan (who was with us in spirit for the interview), they help individuals break free from overcommitment, challenge unspoken expectations, and lead with intention.
