Dave and Mike tried to avoid the controversy, but it couldn't be avoided. Oh yeah, we liked it. Art house cool badges will be turned in at the end of the week.
Description
Mike and Dave reconsider Apocalypse Now during its 40th anniversary year.

Notes
Michael and Dave talk about Once upon a time ...in Hollywood. The predictable critic hacks they are, they loved it, but did discuss possible misogyny and Tarantino's middle school crush on Old Hollywood.

Corrections - "Jefferson Airplane" should be "Paul Revere and the Raiders" - At no point in this movie does Tarantino's Bruce Lee don the yellow jumpsuit

We took a (very short) trip to the Chicago Critics Film Festival. We saw....almost everything. Michael swoons over OUR TIME MACHINE and goes against the grain on THE NIGHTINGALE, while Dave rubs salt in his wound for missing LUCE. In Five Minute Bergman WINTER LIGHT is discussed.
On this weeks episode Michael and Dave talk about the fun new documentary HAIL SATAN? which opens 5/3 in Chicago.

We get judgy, and although we loved this visually stunning Oscar nominee, we wonder if some more uncomfortable questions should have been asked.
Our movie for discussion this episode is the new World War I documentary They Shall Not Grow Old. We discuss whether Peter Jackson's efforts to use modern technology brought the Great War back to life, or if it left us feeling somewhere between 1914 and Middle Earth.
Also Dave and Michael want to hand out some more Oscar nominations, and maybe take some away in our 2018 snubs and anti-snubs lists. Plus, as part of the new Five Minute Bergman segment, Michael reveals what it was like to finally see the director's 1957 classic The Seventh Seal.
